292 with granny 4 spd into my 51 4dr?

Anyone know if i can keep the column shift and do a 4 speed? i found a 3 speed for $75 so i may just pick it up for now

 

It depends in part on what 4-speed you are talking about. If it have a shifer sticking out the top it may not be impossible but its going to require a lot of designing and machine work. And I say that only because I don't like calling things impossible...

If you are talking about a 4-speed that shifts from the side using little levers I have seen it done. The guy used the column shift to shift the forward gears and a cable under the dash to shift into reverse. He is an engineer with full machine shop at his disposal and the kind of guy who can make anything.

I don't recall what he did to lock out reverse when any of the other gears are engaged.
