Hi, i finally got my 29A banger engine running and its pouring water out of the overflow tube when on half throttle or so - but its fine on idle

i have flushed and backflushed the rad and block etc in case of partial blockages but not found any signs of a problem, should i suspect head gasket?

the hoses are not getting pressurised when motor is running and the water coming out is not discoloured (no anti-freeze in it at the moment as i recentlry flushed through)

    any ideas on the cause?

    thanks

    Vince

    Welcome to Banger land.

The A 4 banger can do this - the water pump pushes the water to fast, either fit a thermostat in the top hose, a baffle in the top hose or a smaller crank pulley - the pulley is available from C Yapp www.secretsofspeed.com

Try this before stripping it down, my Banger did extactly the same until I fitted a thermostat!

The Monthly Banger meeting on here is a great source of info - do a search banger meet

on the subject of the crank pulleys - i got the original with the starting handle spikes - what the hell size of socket will undo that mofo! - sometimes life in european metric sucks.

check for a small baffle just under the radiator cap,if it's missing it will push water out the overflow tube. It's in the top tank and directs water away from the overflow.

If your filling the radiator to the top, iits to much. Let it seek its own level, see it it doesn't stop when coolent is about 2" below neck.
