Still trying to find out the who, what, and where's of the elusive 2X2 Y Block aluminum intake manifolds. Some say "Horne" made them, others say that they recall
"Fenton & Hidebrandt" made them. I am not sure. Anyone out there know for sure. I'm building my wife a custom 54 Vicky and would love to have something different on this little 239 C.I. Y Block. If anyone happens to own one please post pictures - even adverti*****ts. Thanks, Axle

There was a 2X2 Y-block intake made by TAWCO in Austrialia for marine appilcations. So, it wouldn't have the thermostat crossover in the casting. Check the Austrailian Ebay for 272/312 marine intakes. I saw one on there recently. :)

  3. I would also like one for my 292. I guess I didn't realize they were that hard to find.

I seen one years ago and thought it must have been made before 57 since it didn't appear to be an improvement over the 57 factory single or dual four... although I know out of the vintage manifolds the Edelbrock's 3-2 had had the best flow the dual carbs are neat... if the dual four was Fenton - that would be neat since they made valve covers and cast headers too

Opps! I meant to say Fenton dual two barrrels... most folks are looking for more flow for performance... and the earlier Y's had smaller ports... check out some of the possibilities at http://m571.com/yblock/intake.htm

ya might want to check out Edmonds too... the fisrt thing would be to find out who made them and I would check with Billy Belmont Belmont's Rod & Custom Dedham, MA (781) 326-3270

My Newhouse Speed Equipment Catalog from 1955 offers an Edmunds 2x2 ($55.00) and a Horne 4x2 "All Out" manifold($63.00) for the Ford Y-Block.
No time to scan right now---after the weekend.

Marcy is correct, Edmunds had a 2x2 advertised by 53 (Speed Mechanics full page ad) maybe earlier, and I remember Almquist having one.

Are Edelbrock 2x4 manifolds very common for y blocks?

I know more recently I saw a adapter in the last Speedway catalog I got that had 2X2's together on the a 4 bll. intake. The adapter was ment for Ford 94's, 97 Stombergs, and Demon 98's. Looked pretty cool but I don't know how effective it wouldbe be cause they ran togther all the time, not progressive.

????? Eddie Edmunds must have been a real visionary, if he was making an intake manifold for Ford Y blocks before the engine even existed. A 2 2bbl intake for the Lincoln Y block, sure.

There maybe some confusion going on here. The Lincoln Y-block was introduced in '52 (model year). The Ford/Mercury versions came in '54 (again, model year). The two are very similar, yet very different. The most obvious way to tell them apart is the Lincoln intake has side-by-side ports and the Ford/Mercury has stacked ports.

Hopefully, Marcy will post some pics from the '55 catalog. It'll be easy to tell if the intakes are for Lincolns or Ford/Mercs. :)

New cars came out in Oct/Nov of the previous model year and speed equipment manufacturing companies that had a tie often had motors before the buying public...

A short while back on Jalopy Journal Ryan posted some pages from an Almquist catalog,if I'm not mistaken Almquist offered a 2X2 Y-block intake. You might google: Ed Almquist, there was a rumor that some of his intakes were going to be recast and he now resides in PA.and still drives His old roadster.

I've been looking for one for a year or two now and have not seen any or heard of any. I would like to know if they really existed or where outdated by the 4 barrel.

My buddy picked one up for his 54 years ago... it may have been an improvement over a stock 54 but not a stock 57

It makes no mention of one in my '54 hot rod mag that has an artical on rodding the 239Y, it does talk about using desoto pistons because they are lighter

I did mean to type "late 53 maybe earlier" which is from memory, but feel free to believe who you want to the 2-2's exist...:D Look up Almquist, Segal, Edmunds etc. Even Edlebrock still made 2-2's for smaller engines into the mid 60's for both three and four bolt carbs.

This is the same ad in the September issue still showing the flathead 2-2, the Y-block ad mentions it is for the new OHV Ford... If I find the other ad I'll post it too.

Here are the scans---sorry no actual Y-block intake photos but definitely available.
Lincoln Y-Block was offered in the same catalog as both "Dual Intake" and Dual Quadrajet Intake" but only "Dual Intake" for Ford

    And the Horne "All Out"

Looking through my Cragar catalogs and later 50's Speed catalogs I see no offering of the 2x4 from Cragar so that must have been Horne only.

Here is an Aussie manufactured 2x2, no brand name on it. It could be a Tawco, a Klienig or a Thomas, they were very common here in the 50's and 60's because Y blocks were very popular here. They didn't come with a thermastat crossover & they had that steep marine lean on the carb base. You could buy wedges (pictured) to straighten up the carb.
    Cheers Dago.
