I’m working on pulling apart a 3-71 blower. Before I break something I’d thought I’d ask if anyone knows how the water pump dog (or at least that’s what I think it is) is removed from the rear of the rotor. It seems loose but won’t slide off the internal splines of the rotor. It has 2 sets of internal threads in the dog (retention). It almost feels like is has a set screw somewhere but cant see any. I’m ***uming it is pressed off the rotor or perhaps a slide hammer is needed to pull it off but the fact that I can wiggle the dog up and down back forth has me stumped.
Any time I did a GMC with that style drive it always just pulled off. Never had to use a puller just put a screw driver behind the ones I dealt with.
I have a 3-71 and I took that off, for the love of me I can't remember how now. I want to say it's threaded and I had to tap on one of the wings to move it counterclockwise to loosen in like a wingnut but I honestly don't recall how I did it...
I I’ll try that. I thought it may engage in the internal splines of the rotor. I’ve tried screw drivers but doesn’t seem to want to budge.
I found a link to one with it off, must be splined. Guess I didn't remember correctly. Maybe just yank real hard on it? https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/3-71-gmc-blower.1195976/
