I have a three carb set up that I had rebuilt by Dick here on HAMB. It's an old offy with three rochester 1bbl's.

Does anyone know if the timing will change with the new carbs? Factory set up was 475 RPM at idle. Will this increase? Cam has been bumped up to a mild cam.

Any advice is good advice. FYI the same question has also been posed to Dick. Just want to get other opinons.

With any kind of a cam you usually can expect to raise the idle speed some and add a little more inintal iginion advance. Personally I would shoot for about 600 RPM for starters.

  5. Exactly.

On the idle speed a little higher idle will be easier on your lower end anyway. The multiple carbs shouldn't effect your idle spees but a little more cam usually does.

I got it running tonight. The idle speed is 1050. Im trying to lower it a bit without the carbs popping. I've given up for the evening.....my neighbors get pissed. On the distributor there is a bolt hold down affixed to what appears to be a degree setting.....what should it be.

    Thanks

Set the "Octane Selector" at 0 then set the timing on the ball on the flywheel . Loosen the clamp screw to adjust the dist. when setting the timing to flywheel mark. Once you have the basic timing set you can make fine adjustment easy using the octane selector. That is what that is for. But you need to get the idle down to about 500 to set the basic timing with a strobe light. Or do it the old time way using a test light across the points with engine off and key on.
