Ford did back in the 60's. Used 2300 Holley's. Blue Thunder may have reproduced them, but don't know somebody did. Some people will take a lower 302 EFI manifold, make a pluemn to go on top and add 3x2's. using 94's or 97's.
They pop up every now and then on marketplace EDB-5412 is a edelbrock number that’s discontinued I’ve seen em drilled for 3 and 4 bolt cards
I had OEM Ford intake , Holley carbs , fuel log , breather and all years ago . About 40 years ago , sold for $700.00 . I built one years ago with Blur Thunder intake and Ford 2100 carbs , it worked out well . My advice nicely 2 plane intake and a single 4 barrel and for get about the h***le .
Holman-Moody had one not too long ago also. Now out of stock. It was more-or-less a copy of the original Ford intake from the late '60s.
I believe that they were a Ford Performance parts counter order like the SOHC parts and inline Autolite intake and carburetor. I’d have to dig through a few of my early catalogs to see but I’m pretty sure they were available.
Ford (branded as Shelby?) sold it as a complete over-the-counter kit for about $400 IIRC. You could buy it at a Ford dealer, that I do know because that's where I saw the only one I did see. This was the mid-'70s at the local dealer, close-out price on the display kit was $150... I should have bought it... But I was thrashing a FE in those days. I did pick up an aluminum FE flywheel for $30 as they were clearing out all the racer stuff...
I’ve seen both the Ford and the Edelbrock and I believe they are both Edelbrock castings, same with the 4V. I believe it’s the Performer RPM, at least the version from the 60s. I’ve got the Motorsport version that I bought from the Ford dealer I worked at in 2000 and it’s a the same as the performer RPM.
That may be true now, but wasn't always that way. Edelbrock has a habit of copying other peoples work. The '66-67 428PI intake that's prized by Ford guys, Edelbrock made a virtual copy of it very shortly after Ford started using it, calling it the 'S-427'. Ford noticed and made them pull it off the market. That's also why you can't find a Edelbrock Ford 2-4V intake that accepts Holley carbs, only Carter/Edelbrocks...
Worked on an A over at my kids; had a sbf with 3x2. Didn't note the intake; but it different kind of carbs, think maybe "Demon". Intake came with the float bowls forward; but soon found they had to be turned backwards to drop the distributor.
I was wanting that set up for my woodie but it’s no longer in production. I LOVES me some Demon carbs
Ford never put 3-2’s on any Y or SBF I know about. Over the dealership parts counter is a totally different story.. With the FE in 1962 406 was common and many had them. I’ve seen 1 1961 390” 401 HP with 3-2’s and was told it was factory…..Maybe dealer installed ..I don’t know.
Apparently you could order an FE equipped car with3x2 from the factory. The car came to the dealership with a 4 bbl installed and the dealer removed the 4bbl and installed the 3 x2. I was 8 or 9 years old back then so I wasn't really there to see it happen. Also, I'm from Canada so things could have been different south of here.
I have a 1969 Ford Muscle Parts Catalog and the only intake listed is the tried and true C90Z-9424 duel plane aluminum intake. It would look nice on a open hooded hot rod but ideally I couldn’t see any real performance advantage over the single 4-bbl setup.
Yep, dealer installed, the parts were in the trunk. Same thing on the later-in-the-year 4 speed option. GM's deal for exclusive use of the T10 expired on Dec 31, 1960, so Ford got busy and made the trans available around April of '61. By the '62 model year both the tripower and trans were factory installed. Then Ford learned what GM already knew... the T10 couldn't take the power of the big-inch engines coming out of Detroit, witness GM already had the Muncie and Ford quickly tooled up the toploader...
Here is Ford 3x2 intake with the original Holley two barrels that I installed on my **** Comet back in the ‘80’s. It was a Buddy Bar manifold, as were the Cobra valve covers. I topped the carbs with an original Cobra oval air cleaner. ( removed for the photo)
