A second handle is a must. Nice setup you've built there:)

  2. Crazy Steve, I really like your radius finger idea.

For an occasional radius you can also lay a few pieces of paper on top of the work piece, more paper, bigger radii. A good reason to save some junk mail.

I looked at these many years ago. I have a friend who has one and its pretty useless, and now broken. I have been doing a lot of metal work since I sort of retired. I don't have room in my shop for a shear, even though I got an almost brand new pexto 52 inch shear when I got my Tennsmith brake. I "patiently waited" for about 10 years to find that and my buddy actually found them for me. Sold the shear and basically got the brake for free.

I use a Bosch electric shear, and a beverly shear for my cutting. Buy a genuine Beverly shear and you will never regret it. I had the HF version for several years before I chipped the blades cutting something too thick. It worked fine till then. The genuine "made in America Beverly shear" will make you smile every time you use it just like any other top quality tool. If you scribe a line on a sheet, you can pretty much cut right on the scribed line with either tool. Most of the pieces we fabricate for our cars don't require a lot of long straight cuts. We aren't building furnace ducting.

The slip rolls I don't think we need either. For the very few times we need to put a roll in something try this. Get a piece of 4, 5, or 6 inch pipe several feet long and a couple of big C clamps. Put your metal under the pipe, clamp into the ends of the pipe with a big c clamp on each end to hold it down onto a table, and lift the metal around it to bend. Cheap and easy and works fine. You can do almost any radius you need, depending on the diameter of the pipe.
I use the box & pan brake a LOT.
I suspect that a lot of us, myself included, preach about the ills of cheap junk made in China. I try hard to buy top quality tools that may have a little wear and tear on them. Trying to do my part.
