Hey guys so I'm getting ready to lower my car and was wondering what everome thought between the 3 and 4" blocks. My dilemma is buying the 3" and it not being low enough. I have a 54 customeline sedan and to me it sits pretty high so I'm thinking the 4" would be perfect. Any thoughts? Any photos of the two would be awesome. Thanks

Hey Solo, check out my album pics. Thats my old 4 door that had 4 inch blocks. S****ed the driveway everytime we pushed it out into the street. I cut them down to 2 1/2 and it was a whole lot better. 4 inches is a lot and I think you would have to be careful about rubbing or hitting the rubber gaurds. Just my .02

It wasnt as bad, but it still s****ed. The pictures of it almost laying frame was how I bought it. The guy had no springs up front at all. It was just blocks of wood... It was just a rolling project though. Im planning on running those 2 1/2 in blocks in the back of my 2door. Already have the aerostar springs up front. Hope it looks good. I want it pretty low, so I might have to go 3 inches. We'll see.

Any chance on you selling me the 4" blocks?

I have 3in blocks on mine and I don't s****e or bottom out usually. If I'm coming off a steep angled driveway then I might drag my tail pipes a bit but nothing bad.

I'm not really sure how well my pictures show the rake but take a look and see if you like the way it sits. I also have the aerostar springs on the front so you can get an idea of how that looks too if you don't have those but want to get them.

It all depends on how worn out your springs are and if you are gonna run lake pipes too... i had 3 inch blocks and s****ed all the time, i flattened out my lake flanges, so i bought drop leafs and still had to put blocks in to get it where it sat before... but now i can have p***engers... Something to think about

Deadendcruizer what size of blocks did you use on your dropped leafs? I am in the middle of changing my old leafs out for a 3 inch dropped set. I have a set of 3 inch blocks but i am afraid it will be too low with them.

I am using 2 inch with the drop leafs... these things sat really high back inthe day, everytime i see a stock one it looks like a 4x4 to me. i also have my lake pipes under the rocker panel i may need to cut them down to 1 inch when everything settles

After putting in the 3" blocks use lake pipes and move the bumpers closer to the body and that will make it look lower, kinda what I'm doing with mine

You should be able to find a three inch lift/drop set up at most any autoparts place. Maybe a local o'reilly's or something. I know most every catalog or online vendor sells them. I should go out and measure them, but I'm pretty sure I've got four inch blocks, and its not terrible. Not the best idea, but not terrible. I need to notch the drive-shaft tunnel.

Yeah, four inch blocks (with tired springs, so lets say atleast a total of a five or so inch drop)

I think I got them from summit or speedway? I really can't remember, its been so long. Maybe even night prowlers? I did order a lot of stuff from them at the time.

If you go with 4 inch blocks, you will experience a bigger can of worms than the three inchers. Drive shaft rub is a concern, and smashing rockers if you curb it. Doesn't ride that bad though.

You might call night prowlers and ask them the width of their springs. They're also A+ folks, great people to deal with

Thanks Custom! Does the whole drive shaft rub or just the back towards where the drive tunnel meets the trunk?

Yeah, the nightprowlers site will be a **** site, THIS ONE will have less ****s.

And yeah, it just will rub at the end of the tunnel, you will see where it rubs. It isn't all the time, its just when there is too much weight in the compartment, I can pack two people and a trunk full of junk (two loaded coolers, a speaker box, and chairs) and it will rub when it hits big bumps, another person and it will want to rub a lot.

My brothers '54 mercury (it had four inch blocks, and removed springs. He is an idiot) rubbed if the air shocks were not fully loaded. So, we fixed the tunnel on that car, and as it was a tudor, it wasn't a big deal. My car will be a pita to raise the end of the tunnel, as hardtops, and drop-tops, have a support bar that runs under the seat base.

I have no real complaints about the four inch blocks, but in all fairness, its the only way I have driven the car. I bought it, slammed it, then eventually got my license. So I learned to drive in a static dropped car, so YMMV, it isn't hard, just takes a little thought. If I can do it at 15, anyone can do it.

Cool thanks for all the incite and help. Yeah growing up I also drive slammed cars an loved it. I just get worried with the old ones thinking **** will start breaking or falling apart. I'll post some before and after pics once it's done. Thanks again!!

Good deal, looking forward to pics! The only thing I'd really worry about is the length of the Ubolts, and the driveshaft tunnel. Whichever you decide to go with, forget about the rest and just dig the hell out of your car! People ****

If they're too long they could hit the ground is all, if they're below the scrub line anyway

Oh no problem I'll just cut the rest off leaving about 3/4" left. Thanks for looking out.
