Hot Rods 3 window kit car (steel)

I have been encouraged to start a thread on this project; I started by putting a few pix on the https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/posts/15671913/ .
I've been trying to sell this project for over a year; you all have probably seen it in the classifieds. I decided to put it together myself. The floor and rear section came from the Don Babb estate in Oregon. The rest of the parts came from various pieces I've collected over the years.

 

That takes some assembly required to a new level.

 

First install floor on the frame and drill all the holes, then install the cowl.

 

Next came the B pillars and the doors.

 

Is the 3 window body in the background your instructions manual?

 

Next were the quarters, had to do a little modification to the rear pan, it was 1/2" farther back on the passenger side. The quarters were for a cabriolet and needed to be shortened about 6".

 

It was going to be but I have sold it. It was fiberglass.

 

Next was to fit the deck lid, went pretty well,. I took it to a friend and used his louver press and punched 124 louvers in it.

 

What an undertaking! Looks like these pieces are in good hands.

 

I've got a little more done. I used the front part of 35-36 pu door tops, reversed side for side to make the slanted part of the rear of the 34 door. These have more slant in them compared to a real 3w door. I don't know how much it's chopped, just eyeballed it where I liked it. I'm using a fordor top for the top. More slicing and dicing to continue.

 

I purchased the 3w catwalk panel (between deck lid and passenger compartment} from Tom Bay. Had to move the cabriolet bead line forward.

 

Next was changing the bead line to the 3w configuration. It's not exact, as I used one from a 34 Fordor.

 

This is awesome. I love builds like this and wish there were more on here like this. Keep the updates coming. I can't wait to see how 36 items look on a 34.

I thought I might need to use other pieces from the 36 sedan, but I had a roof from a 34 Fordor and I think it will work, I'll be making the entire roof from 34 sedan parts. Rear window was cut 5" and lowered. I may have to raise it somewhen I install the front. I also have to narrow it in front as the Fordor is wider in front at the C pillar.

 

It's the IKEA of cars attach part A to part B love it.

 

There isn't anything you can't or won't do with old Fords, Gary!

I saw your "34 - 3 window kit" in the classifieds...and thought it would take ambition and desire, but I could see your thought process and vision. Glad to see and watch it coming to fruition!

 

Tim, thank you. I'm impressed with your work on your Cabriolet, wish I had your talent. Hopefully I can get it all to flow together. Having the rear section of a 3w top would help a lot.
I have been working on the rear top section and have found one side seems to be different in the drip rail shape and the radius from the top opening to the drip rail. A few more days and I'll get it worked out.

 

Love it, looking forward to seeing more. I've got enough '34 bits (along with a 35/36 cab and doors) to make up pretty much whatever body style I choose, although I'm not sure which one I want to do yet. This is all very interesting and useful to me for the future, glad you're taking detailed pics and explaining the process and differences you find, that helps.
