I love the car but those skirts ruin it,IMO. Needs '51 skirts...or....I hate to admit it,but it might even look better without skirts.
EASY!!! I'm a Mercury guy to the bone! The Buick is just like having a pair of sandles to change into when you feel the need,haha...
Sorry, couldn't resist, HA That is a sweet lookin Buick too! I like the blue version of the 3W merc at top of page
Here is the original design I did many years ago. This is what John got inspired to built. And then after his in progress photo and another Photoshopped image appeared in Hot Rod magazine Lynn decided to built his version of the concept.... great! a bit bigger version
The bubble skirts ruin the flow that ride has.. It's a amazing ride but the skirts just ruin the look
Absolutely! Beautiful car but as they always do for me bubble skirts make the back half look terrible.
I saw it at autorama and knew right away it started life as a four door. I talked to the builder Lynn Goodwin about it for 20-30 minutes. He saw the article in rod and custom and decided to give it a shot. He said it took him 3 years to build. I do agree the bubble skirts werent the best choice but the car is damn impressive, he did a incredible job. He nailed the roofline which would have been the hardest part, and had to move the rear window 9-10" forward to get the profile right. It was neat to see how many people didnt even notice what it started out as. The only other thing I would consider doing would be extending the trunklid further toward the rear window. Lynn isnt a Hamber, but I told him about the site, so hopefully he signs up and shows off some build pics.
That is one beautiful car. So well done that many people who don't know their Mercs might think that it came from the factory as a three window. The skirts might look better when you are standing there looking at the car rather than in photos. That and I've lot track of the number of times I have admired Rikster's photoshopped versions and they may make me a bit biased on the skirt thing.
Other than the skirts and the little wispy details on the lights and antenna holes I'd say he nailed it.
