I'm never inclined to disagree with Russ; He has a better eye than I do, but I would take about half the metal out in front of the forward stake pocket.

    Nice truck, either way.

I do plan on skirting, but probalby not so much. I would want to cover some of the rear kick-up framing, but would also like to see a bit of the rear suspension arms and transverse spring.

I think it is coming down to leaving the bed length the way it is. As far as moving the front pocket...I don't know. The "doctored" photo with the pocket all the way forward doesn't do it for me.

  4. I like the bed just the way you have it now. It looks low and fast- not chopped off.

That explains it --- I was wondering about the differences between your cab and my '31 Dodge 1/2 ton cab.

The bed is a '26/27 Ford roadster pickup bed.

Wow...are you sure on the bed year? I was sure it was mid 30's when I picked it up. The Bed is supper solid and I think I just about stole it. I could use a schooling on Ford bed identification.

I think it may be the colours making it look odd (grey / black )
Why not blow some black over the bed sides to get a better perspective of what will stand out ....
So , that is a leave it that length from me ...:)

Now that I see a few others with the stake poket in stock location, I am not so concerned...I think it will fly the way it is. Maybe I can find a later model bed and try it. I was also thinking about picking up a 40's Dodge truck bed and trying that. I know where there are a couple of them, but I think I would have to get the whole truck.

now that I have seen the stock 27 style bed, I agree it looks OK to me to.

I have a 40's style dodge bed cut down for my roadster PU project (see below)

and if you have to buy the whole truck, you will have another project to have fun with :D.
the red one below is my 40 dodge truck (squattie) that I was building to resemble a little firetruck.just haven't put the fire truck stuff on it yet. Ron..

  14. Cut everything off between the front of the front stake pocket and the front of the box. Weld the front peice of the box back in flush with the front of the stake pocket, then move the entire box foreward towards the cab by the amount you cut off. That will solve the length issue, solve the "middle of nowhere" stakepocket issue, and the stake pocket will hide 99% of the bodywork required.---Brian
