So just a few little things done on the car but one big addition to the build! A 409 came home this weekend for the car. All original standard bore and low miles. Got a 348 tri power set up included with the motor. Will need a rebuild but love the idea of running a tri power in the motor. With no hood, friggin awesome! Built the battery box this weekend. Still need to drill some holes to dress it up and do a little more cleanup before paint but like how it turned out. Nice and simple.

Even better it's a 409 with a MANUAL transmission behind it.

Getting the motor ready to test fit. Headers for her arrived from geardrive this week. Matt doesn't build 409 headers anymore but happened to have one set hiding on his shelves. Finished the battery box and built mounts for it. Nice and solid. Also got the backing plates and drums back from paint. Every little step counts right?

They are rochesters but will need a rebuild. Still humming back and forth about the tri power or 2 4's.

Hell of a choice to have to make trips or quads?? I think if it was a 348 trips but an 09 needs dual quads or they would have to remake the song.

Had to make some new motor mounts to replace the hurst unit as it sat too low and close the the drag link. Just copied the design off the hurst unit and fabbed it up. Still needs a little cleanup but happy with how they came out.

Are those Matt's headers ? Really nice. Do you plan to run an exhaust system, if not what are you using for baffling.
Man, that engine is a monster, two quads would be coolToo !

Yup they're Matt's headers. I have my sbc headers from him for sale right now. Yes I will be running a full exhaust as well. Will fab up a cap that will be hidden in the turnouts that I got from Matt as well. Yes I am super happy I took the plunge with the 409. My pocket book will be a little lighter but can't beat the look.

Got one side of the exhaust done. Took my time to build it slow, thinking of matching it on the drivers side. Happy with how it turned out. The hanger grommets from jegs work slick. Will do some cleanup work on all the pipes once I get the other side done. I will be "flash dipping" the headers and tube down to the first attachment point as Matt from Geardrive gets them done. Not sure what to do for a coating on the rest. Never seen anything from a rattle can last very long. Any suggestions from anyone is more than welcome.

Is that a converter just after the headers?

I ***ume you're referring to the flex joint? Not a converter, allows flex from the motors movement without transferring into the rest of the exhaust.

Just caught this thread, great looking build, good choice on a solid car to start with. I always seem to choose the one that needs a year of bodywork.

409 was a surprise, can't wait to see this come together.

Well learned a good lesson last night. There is a bottom guard on a hand grinder for a reason! ha ha. long story short i managed to cut 1/4" into the end of my finger with a cut off disk i was running on the grinder. I am always very careful with all of my work but a momentary moment of dumb*** and voila off to the hospital we went. Frozen finger and a bunch of s***ches later my finger will survive! lesson learned. oh well, can't turn wrenches without some scars!

Sorry man, that ****s. Did you need s***ches? Like @Stogy said, the coupe's not going anywhere, heal, give it a rest. Rushing back into it is not good, been there, done that.[emoji106]

yup need a bunch of s***ches to sew it back up. It's getting the damn thing frozen that hurts the most! i severed the tendon on my pinky finger on that hand several years ago by a freak accident on gl*** and that was not fun! finger has never been the same. hands are not a good thing to injure. Yes i will take my time to let it heal. Off to socal on vacation with the family end of next week so i will probably sit for this time. Something i don't do well ha ha

I had just a few closiees understood...I've met quite a few people missing things...I don't need any more notice on being careful. It comes quite naturally now and yes our playground is inherently dangerous...

My uncle lost a finger in a grinder. He was laughing at me yesterday in a nice way. Just a good reminder slow means go!

Finished the rest of the exhaust tonight. Happy with how it turned out. Anyone looking for a good hanger grommet, these ones from jegs work slick in my opinion. Started on the caps for the turnouts. Had the caps and mounting ring machined at a local machine shop. Made the cross bar for the bolt to connect to. Got it all fitted where I wanted and welded everything in solid. Happy with how they look. Nice and clean and simple. Out of site. Once I get the other cap welded in I will weld the turnouts in and move on to the next task. Watching the vid of the Helmuth Brothers coupe rolling today gives me lots of god motivation!

Off to Southern California to take the fam to Disneyland for spring break. I have negotiated one stop at a "hot rod" place while we are down there. I am thinking mooneyes as it will be an easy stop on the way between Disney and universal. Anyone ever been there? I was gonna drive up to SoCal but that's off the trail a bit more. Just excited to go to any of them. Won't have much time as I will get grief from the family! (Damn kids) ha ha

Got to go to the early Ford store today! Picked up the cowl vent parts I needed and a some other goodies. Best part was I scored this Sun tach. Happy about that. They had pulled my order which I placed last week and had them hold for me to pick up. Funny they couldn't find where they put the order so they gave me what they could find and are shipping the rest to me no charge. And Mike scored me a t shirt for free too! Nice guys to chat with and I was literally drooling over all the original stuff not to mention the three window and roadsters! Would have stayed a bunch longer but the fam was getting ancy wanting to head off to universal. If only we had a place like this close to home!!!

Made a heat shield for the MC and got the body put back on the frame to size up for the 409. Had to make the tough choice to cut the firewall to make it fit. Need to finish it up but you get the general idea. Steering shaft clears the block off the steering column so glad that doesn't have to change. Will need to redo the bottom column mount. Small price to pay for the 409 so i will get over it.

Hows the hand...? The family doesn't understand Dads Disneyland...:D training is required. That exhaust is going to lift the back end off the ground if you don't funnel it to the back...just kidding. Glad your back in action with all your digits. Hey is all the snow gone...ya polar bears?
