Looks good Jerry. Nice job cleaning up the bones. Looks like it's "full steam ahead!" for that project.

Motor and ****** are in...pics coming soon...Spent the evening cleaning the 40 year old ****,dirt, mud, undercoat, sludge off of the rear. Still have a little more of the rear to do. I'm using a 3M paint and rust remover wheel that I got at Auto Zone.

Also, got some tail lights from JAWS for mockup. I think the shape of these 42-48 tail lights will work out best with the sectioned panel below the trunklid. I think the size of round Pontiac or 39 tear drops will not work out. Any other suggestions?

    More progress

Bolted the front shocks onto the lower mounts and opened them up to determine the placement of the F-100 upper mounts. After factoring in shock travel about 3 inches were taken out of the upper mounts and they were welded back together, holes were drilled in the frame and then they mounts bolted on for mock up. Have to do some grinding yet

Got the motor and ****** in..didn't have to cut the firewall much, just a little on top of the ******. Moved the front crossmember forward slightly giving me more engine clearance in the back. Everything seems to fit really nice. Thanks to 1oldrat for lending me the front wheels for mockup. I'll be using wires eventually.

Alright..so with the engine and ****** in...I couldnt help it..I had to decorate the tree...the engine will be painted gold eventually. I got the valley pan from Vintage Speed..they just started making them for cadillac. The Carbs were from Porterville, here on the HAMB, and the intake, scoops, and spacers I got from Chis, also from the HAMB.

Getting ready to mount the rear end spring. A friend had a Pete and Jakes rear crossmember with a spring plate welded on and was nice enough to let me take a tracing of the dog bone plate and brackets. A place up the street from me does CNC laser cutting. I took them a template and they cut this out for me. The large bone is 3/4 inch and the smaller ones are 1/4 inch. I still have the template if anyone wants it. Can't beat it. The large bone plate gets welded underneath my rear crossmember and the two smaller ones hold the rear spring in place.

rear crossmembers with the dog bone set up go for about $240. I will have about $75 in my home made one. Check out the pic below of a new one already welded up

Still waiting for rear end parts...so on to the steering

Scored a really nice 40 Ford column, box, and wheel this year at Hershey. Half the fun of building these things is hunting the swap meets for the parts and haggling over the prices. I had to lug this thing almost a half hour on my shoulder...but it was worth it. It's a damn nice set up.

We shortened the column to a respectable length and used an original 40 ford steering box bracket to mount it to the frame rail. We trimmed the bracket slightly, bead blasted it and tacked it in. No finish weld yet until I'm sure it's where it needs to be. Also had to heat and bend the pitman arm slightly.

The pic of the bracket itself is a pic of an aftermarket one so you can see how we trimmed our original one. Also the sharpie marker line on the framerail kinda shows how much we had to trim it. It was a little work..but the whole steering set up will be original 40 parts..kinda cool.

How do you plan to get the tie rod and drag link anywhere close to parallel with the steering box that far back?

    Hey Tim,
As you can see in the pics I'm doing a cross steer set up. The pitman arm was heated and bent to get the angles and geometry correct.. We installed the draglinks in the process to make sure we had clearance and that things were right. The drag link/tie rod that runs from the pitman arm to the second hole on the p*** side spindle sits nice. Everything looks and works fine. I'll get a pic of the underneath up so you can see what I'm taking about.

Going to be using these 16 inch wire wheels. I really like the look of wire wheels on old hot rods. I'll be getting the adapters from Wheelkid sometime soon.

Going to blast and prime them today while the old lady is at work.

Also...my carbs that were soaking in kero a while back came free..neat old trick that really worked.
