So I just picked up my newest project on sunday. 1930 Tudor, my goal is to make it low and mean. My question is do I box and Z the original frame ( really good condition) or do I build a new frame outta 2x4 .120 wall. I plan on using a Chev 350 for a mill ( nothing to fancy). Any and all help and pics would be GREATLY heplfull!!! Cheers Chris
Just build the frame out of the tubing. I used the model a frame on mine and spent more time fitting everything together. Its stronger and eaiser to just make your own.
Use the Stock A frame, looks better, I don't care who you are. Boxing plates are easy. Get the book from Vern Tardel and he'll show you the masterfull way of Z'ing the frame correctly.
I've been doing a bit of research and found the following useful. Read this http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=150434 Then do a search on "Bleed+Sweep" for an alteranative to Z ing the front. Then hunt up Chopperman's two builds and Littlemens too which are in the Tech Archive section. If you are going to channel it or running full fenders seeing the frame isnt quite the issue as if you are just highboy. I like the idea of new steel in the ch***is but thats just an opinion. Good luck and keep is informed of your build.
