Just pulled a 300 i6 out of a '95 f150 4x4. Going to convert to carb. The ****** is gone and I have a t5 out of a mid '80's s10. Will the m5r2 clutch and flywheel work with the t5? I don't have the bellhousing either! Find one off a 302?
I would say you need to use the flywheel and pressure plate that came on the engine. The clutch disc will need to be replaced with one that has the same spline and the transmission input shaft. Not sure what bell housing will mate the T5 to the I300. This response will take us back to the top.
I have a m5r2 in mine and love it. You can't find another in junk yard? I'll be following you on your conversion to carb. I always wondered if you could drill block and put older fuel pump on the newer block? Is the lobe there on the FI cam for the old pump? I was considering doing those things on a FI 300 until I found the 85 Carb engine.
I'm pretty sure that your flywheel is the wrong diameter for what you will need. As I remember, the 300 is neutral balanced on the flywheel. You will need a late 80's Mustang bellhousing for the t5. That will take a 157 tooth flywheel and a 10.5" clutch. Holley sells those new now as old ones are getting pricey and more difficult to find. I believe you will need to change pilot bearings also. I believe you will need a different starter also. The small units from like a 2000 explorer with the 5.0 are an option.
