Agree, the 300" Ford six is probably the best all around light truck six ever made. Seven mains, big bore, good porting.
Not saying it ain't so, but anyone have a printed reference which substantiates this? I've seen inside several of these; the bore wear is the same as most any other Ford and they don't behave any differently under the boring bar or hone.

I am a SBF guy to my core. I eat sleep and breath 302/5.0 V8's. That said, I have a soft spot for the 300. I don't know why. But they interest me.

i have no experience with forced induction on the 300s, but i had an '88 with OD 5 speed, and it was good for low 20s mpg. and that was with about 190k miles.

i also have a 300 in the '67 f100, with a c4. it's nice, but i miss the 5 speed. can't kill that motor though. and haven't had to do a thing to it.

Have 2 identical F-150 4x4 5speed pickups, one 300 one 302. V-8 a little quicker but needs to be wound up 500 rpm more @ each upshift to move ahead of the traffic. The 6 is a little easier on fuel, but both are not the best mileage wise due to the 4x4. Have a 2 wheel 302 5sp that gets 17mpg @ 70, the 4x4 gets 12. Yes I have too many old F series phords.

The neat thing about that build was the fact that it has held together for I believe quite some time. It's a proven setup, not just a 1 shot deal. And if I recall, he didn't have to wind it up to the moon to achieve his results either.
