Just got a 3 door heater for my 46 that has a 302 engine and a Edelbrock intake. The heater is bolted through the lower firewall like stock. Where would be the best place to tap into a water source for the heater?

Stock places on the engine. One should be on the water pump housing and the other on the intake.

What Jimmy Six said. The intake will possibly have a pipe plug in it currently and water pump should have a rubber cap clamped on it.

Did you find the mentioned areas? Able to hook some heat?

The water from the manifold should be the "in" bottom of heater core, top "out" goes to water pump.

I am going thru this on my build. This is what I ended up doing to keep the clutter down.
