in the begining of 2005 i put a junk yard 302 (1986) in my 1962 galaxie. before i droped it in i replaced the oil pump, water pump, timing set, intake manifold, distributor, and gaskets. about 2 months ago it started to knock (i did not install that) so i got an other 302 from a buddy--this one i have actually seen and heard running, but it is a 1995 5.0 out of a station wagoon. my problem is i have all of this relatively new stuff on the 86 302 that im unsure of fitting on the 95 302. my question is, are the blocks the same? could i take all the stuff off the old motor and put it on the new one? i dont want to have to throw out all the new parts.

the 95 should be a roller cam motor. Other than that, everything external should swap over.

A 95 station wagon?? You sure it wasn't a club wagon(van )? Don't think Ford made a fullsize wagon in 95. Now a 85 station wagon would make sense.

'86 and '95 are both roller motors. Everything should interchange. FWIW, '85 was the first year for the roller 5.0 - and '95 the last (it was replaced with the 4.6 liter mod motor).

'86 only the HO got the rollers - Mustang GT & Lincoln LS (I think)...

The 302 lived on in the Explorer for a few years after leaving the Mustang in '95, IIRC

Back to the question at hand - if you can make the accessories work together (they should) and get the front engine dress you want, it should be a piece of cake.

yeah...everything should bolt in..except the distributer gear.

Use the one from the new motor. You may need to use the entire distributer if the shaft O.D. is different.

The camshaft distributer gear is different on the roller motors from the non-roller motors. I guess it doesn't really matter if you know if the 86 engine is a roller motor or not because the distributer for 1994-95 is completely different.

Just to confuse you even more...there was never a 1995 Crown Vic Wagon or V8 Explorer, Either you made a typo or your information is incorrect.

    The Crown Vic in 1995 would've had a 4.6 V8 and the Explorer would've had a 4.0 V6.

Only the F Series trucks, Full sized Bronco and E series Vans had a 302.

I though 1989 was the last year? Not that it matters....there is definitely no such thing as a 95 wagon

91 was the last year for the Crown vic wagon.

I guess the quickest way is to pull the distributer and compare the drive gears. Otherwise, you should be all good regardless of the year of the 302.

I can't remember where the casting numbers are on the block...sorry
