Always been a Blue oval guy but recently acquired a 305 Chevy out of a pickup. Its had an RV cam added and the mains done so may just check it and freshen it up. Got an Edelbrock Performer off a friend and it looks good so want to use it but not sure what it came off.

So do all SB Chevy intakes interchange? Dont want to spend alot and dont want to change heads or anything, building on a budget.

The later vortec engines have different heads and intakes, all others interchange.
Do you know what year 305 you have?

I'm running a performer intake and 1406 on my 305. I'm told the performer intakes match up very well for the 305's characteristics. if the 305 is out of a pick up, it should have better stock heads.

  4. The newer (86+) 305s have a roller cam and a one piece rear oil seal. I would pull the intake manifold and valve covers and make a visual inspection. If they are full of crud it indicates a lot of miles since the last rebuild. If the insides are clean and the motor passes a compression test then I would not take it down any further.
