so i found these wheels, and i wanna run em on my 42 ford. i have a 5 lug and these are six. is there some kind of an adapter i can use? how are most of you getting away with it without using orig equip? i would apreciate the advice, i love how these wheels are 19's
Those are way too narrow and likely too weak for a 42 Ford. Those may be 3" or 3.25" width, so any 19" tire that will fit, will not carry the weight of a 42 Ford. Adapters will make it more unsafe because the offset will be very wrong, which puts more load on the wheels. Meaning that an adapter will move the wheel out by an inch or more. If you insist, then the best way to put those on a Ford drum is to have your drums drilled for that pattern...but first, make sure that center hole is large enough to fit the snout on the drum. i agree that those are nice looking wheels with the double-crossed spokes. How about saving them for an older, lighter rod?
Even if you could find the adapters....I'd be afraid to run them. A 42 Ford is a lot heavier that a late 20's/early 30's car. They may hold the weight but would fold going around a corner. Sorry! Clark
I'm agreeing, they were made for a car around 2000 lbs. I'd bet a Chevy with six lugs, probably around '28-'30.
Simple solution, but another project- (Speedster?) to put them on if you like them so much. I am agreeing with all of the above- you can't put those on a 42- they will never survive. BTW- if you only have 4 have you checked to see how true they are. I run OE on my 30 speedster and there is a pile of wire wheels out back as I looked for four good wheels.
Most likely a 30-32 Chevy wheel, not easy to sell, as everyone above has said they aren't safe on a '42 Ford.
thank you for all the input! i should of stated that its just a 42 ford cab. its a custom built frame out of rec tube. i was only gonna run em in the front. the guy has tons of wheels, i could always go with the smaller wider ones. i just thought the skinny 19s would of been bad***.
