I recently got out of rockcrawling and back into rodding. I have a 55 hardtop with a 454 that I bracket race, but I wanted to get into some vintage stuff. I sold my crawler, and started looking for some decent steel. Bahahahahahha, I looked for a few months and couldn't come up with anything. I finaly came across a 31 5w in the paper and decided to buy it. Although EXTREMELY rough, it came with about 90% of all the other steel and parts minus engine/trans. I should be able to get back about 1,000 from selling off the parts.

Cab has 1-3" of rot all the way around and a poor chop that I'm completley redoing.

I'm a pretty good fabricator with a bender and tube steel, but sheel metal is a whole new world to me, but I'll figure it out.

I'm used to working with nice clean tube steel... OMG, I so need to buy a mask. The rust dust is insane

My kid loves helping out though. Not a bad helper for only being three years old. Of course when it gets too nasty or if I'm welding, in the house he goes.... I have pics of me and my dad building my 55 when I was the same age. It's AWESOME..

having fun with patch panels :D . Most of this stuff is most likely routine to you guys, but I'm in virgin territory here. I bought all of my panels from Sac vintage for less than 150.00. I'm getting better and better with every patch LOL.

more patch work ( this process is pretty much the same for every patch, So I won't be repeating it with every panel)

OK now for some cool shiat

My seats showed up, So threw em in there for a quick PIC and test fit. After getting in there, they will need to go back at least another 6" from their current spot. But they are SIACKKK. Not traditional, but I like them ( a little new meets old ) :D :D :D :D

I was going to go all out and fab my own frame, but between work and family, I wasn't looking forward to building a jig/table and fabbing a frame. So I decided to join the Alliance and buy one from Jason at Johnson Garage.

Frame is on order and should be sitting in my garage in 3-4 weeks. I saved 200.00 by joining the Alliance and going through Jason on a built frame. A few pics of his work and sick ass P/U sitting on one of his frames

I spent alot of time thinking about what front end I wanted to run and I ended up buying a complete front end from Riley Auto here on the board.

I ended up going with a super bell P/J complete front end with chebby disc set-up fromRiley ( Eric ) Eric, is a great guy to talk to on the phone and you can tell he only wants to get you into parts that fit your wallet.

    Here was my logic.

    - LOW BUCK, without having to chase down parts ( NO TIME )
    - Reliable
    - Traditional
    - Functional
    - SAFE

Although, the discs are not what I wanted, a new drum set-up was out of my budget, I Don't want to chase down old worn out parts and I want to have this car built and driving by March- April. I've been to many swap meets in the last few months and they all pretty much sucked. Nothing but overpriced rust. Same parts/people each swap meet too. WTF, ? people need to figure out that their not going to get rich sellin old worn out parts  ... Well unless your BJ... LOL, and sell a 55 chebby for 250K ;)

Anyway, This front end fit the bill nicely. I Should have it in about a week, I'm guessing. I also bought some 39 tail lights from Eric.

The UPS man at our old house used to stop back after work and help me put on the parts he delivered that day. All he would take for his effort was some apples off our trees to feed the deer at his cabin in Northern Michigan. Damn I miss him, he was the only good thing about living there. The rest of the people sucked, couldn't undertand the need to fire up the 427 drag car at three in the morning to set the timing.
