Talked to Killer and the frame is being built this week, so I should have that in the next 7-10 days Im guessing. Looks like I need to get off my ass and finish the PS rot . I've been busy working on the engine. I sent the valve covers, intake, and timing cover out for sand blasting and ordered a bunch of parts from hot heads. I have the following parts coming: - Electronic ign system / dist - stock timing chain set - plugs - offy valley cover I have been working on the engine ( man it's COLD in the GARAGE ). Repainted the block and heads, decarboned the valves, and brought the rocker assy's back to life. Oil passage where pretty plugged up and the shafts needed to be lubed/freed up. More to come
Nope. I use napa iron cast on just about everything. Big question now, is what to paint the vavle cover, pan and timing cover ? Paint scheme for car is unknown at this time.
Well I wasn't in the mood for patch panels sooooooo . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . I made some Dog Breath Chili instead
Mr Chopperman.. Best part of your new ride...... your helper! Keep'm involved and you both will have a ball when your car is on the road.... Pontiac Slim
Finished up the PS rot ( still waiting on wheel wells though ) Also received some hot heads parts. Still need to order some misc gaskets and a 3x2 intake as my stocker is toast.
Dam chopperman, you don't mess around! Looks like the crappier of the 2 windsheild frames was savable afterall. Nice! Your coupe is coming along great! Keep up the good work. Eric, not Erik, lol
I got it from Harbor freight 30.00 on sale. It works sweet. I ordered a few more parts from hot heads today -pan gaskets -timing cover gaskets -valley pan gaskets I had no Idea some Hemi's didn't run a balancer .Since I'm going with no belts up front I ordered a full on balancer as well. This thing is going to look sick sitting in the Coupe with no water pump or alt. Still up in the air with the intake. pretty spendy when it's all said and done. Looks like it would end up in 1500.00 plus to go with 3 97's
Thanks for the great comments everyone. I'm trying to keep this build up as much a play by play as I can. I'm a newb myself. I'm a pretty good fabricator when it comes to bending tube and 4 link suspensions with crawlers, but sheet metal is a whole new world to me.
New guy or not, you're doing great and sharing the build can only be helping others who haven't gone through the drill yet. I see that you've had previous experience doing a project and it's paying off on this. Mainly, make a plan, scope out what it's going to take, aquire the components, do a first rate prep job and apply common sense to the build. When you plan well, use quality parts and use your (or other's) skills to accomplish the goal you only have to do things once (with maybe some fine tuning) and end up with a quality final product. Keep up the good work and keep us posted. Frank
Hey Mate, Do you mind posting a couple pics of the "cast iron" painted pieces? I'm thinking of doing an intake in that or the "cast aluminium" but havent seen it in real life. Killer car, killer post by the way. Danny
Couple more update pics. Finishing the previous owners chop, adding door handles, latches, and fixing door alignment. I also picked up a balancer for the hemi ( didn't run one in stock form ) Ohhh, Just found out Santa will be dropping this 3x2 intake off in a brown van next week Now I just need 3 97's
Looks good. That is the intake I was planning on running...I wish I had some time to work on my chrysler coupe. Too busy with customer cars. Watching your progress makes me want to take a couple weeks off and just work on my cars...EVILT
Picking up the frame Friday Leaving Sac around 3:00 AM heading to Hesperia, turning around and comin home. Nothing like 16 hours on the road This project is about to take on a whole new form.
Ummm... wow Jason. Nice. Chopperman - Nice job fixing the chop and getting those panels to look right.
Thanks.. It's coming along. The Chop is still a little jacked, but I'm not trying to score any body points. Just fixing the MAJOR problems. I could hide alot of it with bondo or lead if I choose to later The HAMB membership has saved me over a grand now from various vendors. Well worth the 50.00 investment
So what does that put you at...over 10K in just the parts that you can get discounted through H.A.M.B. just since you bought your membership? How much in new parts NOT discountable through H.A.M.B.'s membership?
I received discounts from the following vendors Biggest discounts came from these guys Riley Auto - Coker Tire - Jason- and a few other guys too bad hot heads isn't a member I'm just under 10K TOTAL out of pocket right now ( I still think I paid too much for the cab ) I think I can realisticaly recoop about 500.00 from stock parts. It's the nickle dime shiat that get's you. ( engine stand, tools, path panels, HOT HEADS, ect.ect. ) I'm going to end up at about 12K after it's all said and done. Original budget of 9K. Not too bad for a 31 5W Hemi coupe with alot of new parts. As you guys know there is no limit on this stuff. I could have easily pumped another 3-4K into the engine alone. I would have probably stuck to my original budget, but I have been recently blessed with a sizeable promotion and pay increase and can now afford some of the new stuff ( intake, front end, seats, tires, ect. ) .
Just got back. I B Tired I had to up the alarm on my edge to 105 MPH though This frame is awesome. Too many details to go over in these crappy pics. More to come tomorrow
