Chopperman, did I miss the brake pedal? I saw all the tubes running all over the place but where's the brake pedal? Interesting work.
Making some progress. soldering all the wiring takes 3 x's as long, but worth it. I'm 3-4 wires away from firing the engine.
Looking good dude.. Red Robin in Folsom next week? You could drive the chevy if you had too we'd still let you in.
Well, we wrenched all day long trying to get it running. Ended up taking it down to one carb and by the time I got the second on there it was running good enough to drive. So we did. Still have a ton of stuff to do, but man it felt good to drive it. PICs are with out a cowl, third carb, scoops ect. It's funny to see peoples faces as we rolled by. It was awesome.
It's about time, it's been what, ten days since you started the project? haha. Congrats on the first drive. Cool to see someone do something this quickly.
Well you beat me to it!!! mines not running yet...I guess we could grab some HAMBers and push me arround the block making motor noises!!
WHAT? HUH? This thing is on the road!?!? I havent even STARTED on my '56 yet! (of course, Ive only had the truck for 10 mos.)
Jeez RJ, You may have set some sort of HAMB record for the quick (and quality) build. This thing looked badazz when I was at your place picking up parts... Can't imagine the sweet sound of it rattling the neighbors windows. Congratulations on the first drive and a well executed build. One of the better mixes of new and old I have seen. Todd
Thats nothin! As someone who's sitting on a '30 5 wnd, a "Killer" frame, a tunnel rammed 351 C, a WC T-5, a posi 9", and ton of other parts for it, all of which I've gathered since Feb. '05, you make me jealous I can only dream of building something as cooool as this, bro! My health/back has been keepin me from starting on it, but when I do, I can only hope to end up with a car as bitchin as your coupe has become. Your build has taught me a lot, and I thank you for sharing. Congrats, you did a great job! Eric
Thanks guys. I am far from finished. But driving it is a MAJOR milestone. Issues at hand - floor, need one - add a few leafs to rear spring, bottoms out - add bump stop to rear - rear shocks - cut out rear fenders a bit more - fix brake leak - get engine running properly ( runs just good enough to get around the block ) Pretty tricky with the three carbs, but I'm getting close - get a decent throttle pedal. Cheap speedway is just that. - catch can - PCV valve - fix leaky valve cover - headlights - mount windshield frame - cut lexan windshield - seatbelts ect.ect.ect. Not to mention registration. I'm in the zone though Thanks Again
having a glass windshield made is pretty cheap since they are flat. I wouldnt even consider a lexan one IMO, maybe side windows but not windshield.... anyway awesome build man really makes me want to go out in my garage and get my ass in gear..
Now then why did your wife(?) have her hands covering her ears in that one photo? Surely it's not THAT loud?
Chopperman, What is the model number and/or description of the Kirkey seats you used? I likey. Thank you.
Well I have the engine running pretty strong and on all three carbs . It still needs fine tuning but it's drivable now. Took it out for a 30 mile trip and all was good. This car stright up gets attention. COP was right behind be and didn't do shiat ( no plates, reg, trunk lid, fenders, open exhaust, no windsheild ) CRAZY.
Its about freakin time!!! Just kidding. Dude, I agree with the record & quality build. That thing is awesome man. Thanks for the inspiration thruout the build. really really Kool!
Look at that view out of the windshield!!! Holy cow. My heart just stopped. You're having way too much fun. Tom
I have found out that the number 1 thing that the kids love about my car are the HEADERS. They are at the perfect height for the little guys to grab at and they do. So before some kid lost all the skin off their hand, figured I would be proactive about the problem. I decided to wrap them up with black header wrap, at first I didn't like it, but now that they are finished I really like them. Adds to the general badassness of the ride.
I would like to do the same thing with the header wrap. I am worried about the kids. Where can I get it? Also, how did you lower the noise on the lake pipes? Glass packs? I will be doing the same set up and would like to know. Great car. An inspiration to all of us building our rods. We all need to get off our asses and "get it done". Brianc
Hey Chopperman, I saw you cruise through the Auburn show last night about 8:30'ish. Looking good! Mike
