Hey guys, we have a 31 chev coupe and are in the process if rough fitting everything together, we are wondering what are some suggestions what some people arer using for steering columns that fit reasonably well. also planning on putting power steering in it....thinking about a 80 style cavalier or something similar would work?... any suggestions? thanks roughneck josh
Early Chevy van tilt column. Simple, slender and sleek. Considering the traditional look we strive to achieve here, I'd stay away from those rectangular plastic covered columns from the 80's. Yuk.
John, I've owned 29 full fendered A roadster,27 T fenderless,34 Dodge 4 dr sedan,32 fenderless truck,36 Chev full fendered P/U....all of these had non power steering except the 36 truck. They had cross steer straight axle, side steer straight axle,M-II,and subframe swap. The only one that had P/S was a M-II set up in the 36 truck, they all steered great except the truck. The truck steered really light on the road, and I changed the rack to a manual one for much better steering. Point I'm making is with the engine setback in the early 20-30's cars, you don't have as much weight on the steering axle, and IN MY OPINION,you don't need the hassle of P/S(nor want it)
Yeah i have a 350 small block chevy ready to go for it so there is a few upgrades and i put power steering in my 40 chev pickup i just finished and it turned out great and i think it handles very well.
