Hey guys, planning on taking the 194 original motor out and upgrade to a later model 250. Is there someplace to buy the motor mounts? or do I need to make them? Maybe some out of another car? thanks Joe
Your going to have to do some fab work to get the 250 to fit. My old man put one in his 53 chevy truck and he had to modify the firewall. The later model engines are more different than they first appear. "MELTDOWN DRAGS" July 20, 21 2013 at Byron Dragway Byron Ill. www.meltdowndrags.com
I have a 250 Pontiac OHC6 in my 31 pontiac which originally came with. A inline flathead 6 so it had a prety long engine bay to begin with 112" wheelbase even with that to start with I still had to reverse the firewall here's a pic of the firewall and the mounts I am using that were fabbed
You should check some of the older threads. There is a lot of information about motor mounts and buying the right kind. There was one a while ago about buy a certain manufacturer of "hockey puck" mounts because the other ones fell apart. But, you'd still need to do some fab work welding them on or manufacturing new mounts.
I've had this borrowed of the net photo in my things I want to use on mine file. A few vendors sell the mount but it would be real simple to fabricate the piece that bolts to the engine and have it look good and the Ford V8 (flathead) biscuit mounts are readily available and not expensive.v Example, Speedway has a pair for 20.00 or you can find them with stainless trim for a few bucks more if you want better looking ones. http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Universal-Bolt-Through-Engine-Mount-Cushion-Kit,1199.html
The later model 1962 and newer 194, 230, 250, 292 are all longer than your stovebolt 194. You would need to find a 216, 235, or 261 to stay with the old style six with better oiling and improved breathing. I'm not sure if they are even a direct bolt in for your car.
