My build is very similar to yours but my body had no rust and pretty good wood in it really torn about chopping it.I like that you use the orignal brakes, you put a lot of work into them.I did the flathead with a T5 and so far i havent even used 5th gear. When you start chopping it dont forget to take pics and post them.
Late brake reply. But gearbox still on table, so … Floater intructions say reverse roller pin orientation. cotter pin end inside.
It has been really slow going. Spent 3 weekends building a pergola in the back yard and that took all my project time. I did get the engine painted. The block is New Ford Gray. The heads are gloss black. Hoping to get the flywheel, clutch and transmission bolted on so I can set everything in the frame.
I am using the AV8 kit from Millworks Hotrods. They have a bracket that allows you to use the stock Model A pedals that attaches to the transmission. It seems like it will work well.
A little progress. I got the flywheel, clutch and transmission installed on the engine and set them in the frame for a second time. I am sure it will come back out at least once but, it is in its final configuration and it seems to line up pretty well. These moments feel good. So many things have to be fittled and fetted and no one knows about all the work you have done fighting stuff that should just work. So it is nice when it comes together and you can see some real progress. Now on to fight the front brakes.
ShortyPU, The rear is pretty obvious but can I ask what your front suspension set-up is? Also your tire sizes as the rubber rake can make a big difference. Thanks, robj P.S. I'm also building a Tudor and am purposely not chopping the top. I'm looking for a late 30's early 40's style build and my instinct is telling me there are more of these chopped now than there were back in the day. I'm thinking the chopped ones were what got their photos taken but I would bet most, owned by more average guys, weren't chopped, either due to the skill set involved, money, or having the car "down" for that long. After all, these were their daily transportation for work or school.
Just discovered this great thread. I will follow with interest. Purchased this rusty rough 4 1/2' chopped 31 some 5 years ago. Progress has been slow recently but this thread has reignited my enthusiasm. As of July this year. The front end goes on soon to confirm the "stance"
Tricyclerob the Axle is an old lucky7 4''drop drilled axle, the spring is a posies 31'' spring, the wish bones are the speedway split bones. The drum brakes are Boling bros 39 lincoln,3''3/4 drop arms,so cal shocks and steering componets on a vega box.The wheels are 40 ford with 5.50x16 front tires and rear are 215/85/16.I dont think im going to chop it now because i just put all new glass in it.And i agree about the rubber rake i had ordered 7.50/16'' coker tires like the front ones but after 5 months of waiting on them i went with cheap radial tires.
