Slow progress. Got my seats out of the attic and dusted them off. They are low profile but really feel like they take up a ton of room when sitting in cab: oh well, I'm not sitting on the floor. Started on firewall stuff.

Man, some things are fighting me tooth and nail. Many tasks that should have taken 15 minutes seem to be taking multiple nights. it's cool though.

    • rear gl***/frame in last night. getting the washers and nuts behind the frame is a real *****. Looks great but got a small crack after install, but it's staying there for now. The rest of my gl*** saga is here

Your truck looks great, similar to mine in a number of ways. I wish I was as far along as you are. What's the brand/name of that stick-on insulation you're using? Source?

    Thanks!

These showed up in the mail from strombergs97. Waiting on manifold etc.

Spent the rest of the night working on the winsheild so I can return it to local gl*** guy during Saturday hours and hopefully end up with non broken gl*** by next weekend.....

I'll probably regret articulating this, but Adhoc plan is to have car driving for a parade on 4th so I can take my little boy, as I'm not sure if ill be able to hold onto the truck indefinitely.

Followed this THREAD since it's inception almost a year ago. So, now I finally decided give it a try. I'm only using it in areas where it will be covered so I can remove it w/o having to worry about damage to paint if there's a problem.

    So, updates:

    • gratuitous outdoors pic, since it's so much better than inside the dark/cramped confines of the garage. Bed and dash should be back from paint this week.
    • Did a little wood panel to mount and isolate electrical stuff, and began the tedious task of redoing the wiring.
    • Started swapping the 2x2. Honestly having second thoughts:
      • PROs
        • looks awesome, plus the edelbrock sticks out like a sore thumb.
      • CONs
        • WAY more expensive and complicated
        • ton of work to do/redo: throttle linkage, fuel lines, coil mount, and trans linkage is going to be a royal pain in the ****.
        • PCV and distributor vacuum maybe problematic
        • can't run my hood. Aside from wasted time and money on it, I do want a hood for more all weather driving.
        • I suspect worse performance the 4 bbl, at least on top end.

    5"

Updates. Not too much but I did overcome two issues (see posts 179, 180), so those are two fewer problems that I have to deal with.

    • Headlights mounted w/o too much h***le. I elongated the headlight slot, and used thin SS washers shaped to fit in the cups to raise the headlight just enough. These two things allowed me to tilt them forward to where they needed to be.
    • I entertained some other ignition options, but I really want to try the vacuum advance. I tried mounting the existing distributor every which way but something was always in the way. I finally put it back to stock, then shaved the needed amount off the cap. It's not pretty but that's all the space that I needed and cannot be seen anyways.

  12. found this thread and noticed that I too have the same steering wheel! I guess 31 trucks are notorious for home made flat steering wheels!

Slow. Waiting on rest of paint still.

Tons of pondering and ****ing around with throttle/carb/trans linkage since switching to multi carbs. But I think I have a plan finally. Found some stainless aircraft swageless cable fittings with 10-32 studs to plug into regular Heim and ball joints.

I spent many hours ****ing with the shifter. I swore it was fine before but must not have been. Made a few mods including boxing the arm to reduce flex. Better but not perfect. Good enough for now.

Mounted my data/vin tag. more of a marque moment than anything else.

(bummer got a new phone and the app doesn't like uploading pics from it)

also got ins/tags and ***le transferred so Ill be legal, finally.

Lastly, got my windshield today. They did a number on my freshly painted frame and one corner isn't as tight as I'd like it, but its been a saga and I'm just glad to have uncracked gl*** finally

    • picked up my bed finally (still waiting on dash/tailgate/door trim). Finally looking like a pickup. my son sat in it for the first time; he seemed to like it.
    • roughed out the throttle/trans linkage
    • Fixed problem w/ Vintiques window regulator (from Mac's 2 years ago). Either i got a blem, or Vintiques realized the problem and since changed the design. The stud in the circle needs to be flush to clear the door gl*** channel.

Try pics with this app again.... (apparently not working: must not like this phone)

Made a bracket for the powergen. It is slightly taller one end (by design). Bottom bracket on motor (made by PO, but worth keeping after clean up and refinement) had a 2.5 degree cant in it, so this was an easy way to fix

Got my fuel filler and vent line done. Still need to make a little bracket.

    • Powergen mounted. Still need a belt and redo arm. Hurt to spend the money, when I had a perfectly good alternator, but looks so much better that it's worth it.
    • Picked up some more paint. Only the tailgate and glovebox door remain.
    • Started ***embling the dash. Pretty. Also did a little work sorting wires in the cab.

    • Picked up the last of my paint Saturday (whew, finally)
    • windshield in. After wrestling w/ the aftermarket hinge seal, I opted to use a sealant instead. I still don't love the gap b/t the frame and the cab at the top sides of the windshield, so I'll have to work on some kind of seal solution there.
    • Dash in. Looks sweet, but damn that cab is getting small fast.......
    • Working on the tedious task of wiring. Slow going, but should be worth the time spent in the end.

    Yep, still wiring......

but i listened to the stereo for the first time ever (see post 93 for the speakers). hate on, but i like music, it's got USB port for charging a phone, and audio input for ipods/phones/etc.... and no one will ever know it or the speakers are even there.

Also got to test most of lights, switches and wiring. So far so good.

Also got the windshield swing arms in.

Trying to get this running by end of Friday for something on Saturday. Things were looking pretty good until I ran into some brake issues, so not sure if I'll make it now. There's only so many hours in a day.

    • Wrapped up everything behind the dash: switches, wiring, heater hoses/valve, etc. Came out pretty clean, more so than it appears in the pictures. Also made up a wiring diagram b/c I don't remember anything, and I wanted to do***ent details like switch terminals and wire routing.
    • Rr view mirror and dome light. Also ran wiring for wipers at the same time.
    • Door covers and garnish installed.
    • Gas tank (formerly) in. Installing that w/ the dash turned into a bit of a jigsaw puzzle and I'd be lying if there wasn't a paint chip or two.
    • New steering wheel. Not because I didn't like the old one. After shortening the column when I moved the steering box, the old wheel hit the dash.
    • Hood installed, only to fine tune radiator alignment and supports, since I won't be able to run it w/ the strombergs.
    • alot of other misc BS

Went to get wheels swapped this morning and found this, the mgr's car. I've had the wheels for like 3 years waiting to put on

Guess I lucked out because he really hooked me up. On time and money Super guy.

First time on the road and new wheels. So much better (couldn't stare at those red wheels any longer). Marathon week getting it running with no shortage of problems. Still lots to do but at least its running now.

You did a really great job with that truck. The stance is spot on, and the tire sizes are perfect.
