I see what they did, how were they allowed to do that? Bob

Sorry that happened. Some day I'll get to see how my 354 is, was this a common problem? Bob

  3. Looks good, Dave. How the electrical doing? And the heads?

  4. Thanks Sam. After you figured out my issue with the headlight switch, I cleaned up and routed everything to tidy it up. I still plan to add a toggle under the dash for the fuel pump and I need to run the wires for the dome light and wiper motor. I'm dealing with the dome light now because I'm currently making the headliner.

The machine shop is clearancing the push rod bores for the adjustable push rods. The rest of the head rework is done. I dropped off another set of used rocker assemblies yesterday for them to rebuild, and we're waiting for the new piston. He says all the parts and work should be completed this week. I'm going to have him come to my house and put it back together as well to preserve my warranty.

  5. That's good news, things moving in the right direction.

How is the fuel pump wired now, and what are the changes you intend to make?

  6. Currently the fuel pump is wired into the ignition bus on the fuse block. That's where the slot for the fuel pump fuse is. So when the key is on accessory, the fuel pump is running. I don't want that, so I figured I could just cut the wire between the fuse block and the pump and add the toggle. Will that work?

On a side note, when the key is turned one click to the right, before engaging the starter, the fuel pump is on. I'm OK with that as long as I have an accessory power mode where the fuel pump doesn't run. And when I turn the key one click to the left, (in what's traditionally accessory power mode) the fuel pump also runs. That's not OK, because I have no accessory mode without the fuel pump running.

The fuze block (EZ Wire) comes with the fuel pump circuit on the same bus as all the ignition stuff, so without modifying the bus (cutting it) I don't really see any other way to separate the fuel pump. Unless I just run the fuel pump circuit completely separate from all the ignition circuits. And then I'd still need a toggle switch.

  7. I would call E-Z Wire and ask them for some recommendations. I feel there is a way to do what you want without splicing in a toggle switch, but that would work. The ignition switch should have ignition on and accessory terminals that should allow you to connect the fuel pump like you suggest, which is the best way to do it.

As a safety precaution you could wire in a relay and an oil pressure switch to the system. This will do the same as the toggle. This method would allow the fuel pump to run only when the engine has oil pressure. And the relay would allow you to get the fuel pump power directly from the battery for a shorter power wire of larger gauge.

  8. I put some time in on the headliner today. I'm making a rigid insert that will be held in place with screws around the outside edge and in the center by the dome light. Once I had it fitted and screwed in, I misted it with water so it will dry in the concave shape. I'm undecided on whether I'll cover it in smooth vinyl or the sewn tucks like the seats.

[IMG]If that went in through the door opening you should have shot a video. Bob

  11. It's definitely a tight fit Bob, but it fits. I couldn't wrestle the headliner in and shoot video at the same time.

  12. Looking good Dave. I think you should do a center panel on the headliner of white tucks to match your seats design. The lighter color will help brighten the interior and bring in more contrast/detail.

  13. Thanks Lee. Either way, smooth or tucks, the insert will be covered in white vinyl to lighten/brighten up the interior. My concern with the foam tucks is that I think they will eventually separate from the substrate whereas the smooth vinyl probably won't.

In the mean time I got the bottom end of the hemi buttoned up. I plugged in two pistons, and then painted and installed the oil pan.

  14. Dave, on the headliner idea. Have the upholstery shop sew the glued seams together.

  15. You mean have them sew the tucks through the luan? Is that possible?

  16. I was thinking sew the seams together so they didn't come unglued. Not as a way to attach the material to the luan.

I understand now, the rolled material would have less contact to the luan and might come off.

  23. HaHa, no, I just meant I've put the motor back together and gotten it running.

The interior is just a hack home job to save money.

Thanks Steve, that really means a lot coming from you.

  24. Thanks Chuck, I'm thrashing to get the car together for the Jalopyrama in Maryland on October 24, so I don't quite have 48 days left.

  25. Thought so but had to ask cause I need a period interior for my 39 Gasser this winter. Headliner is always a B!T(&.

I just got out of my daily driver 30 minutes ago and was listening to that song (my stereo kicks loads of ass).

I was literally going to write the same thing you did!

  27. I got the header panel finished and installed this weekend.

I made it from 20 gauge sheet and a bench top break. I wanted it rounded, so a little filler smoothed out the breaks.

Once I was satisfied with the fit, I wrapped it in black vinyl.

Then I installed it and the rear view mirror. Now all that's left of the interior is the carpet.
