Hello Everybody , Im new to posting on the HAMB. I have been lurking for years . I think its about time to man up and post some pics of my project and become flame hardened like some many others here. I and my friends have been working on this pile for about three years. Its currently blown apart for some paint and finish detail. It started as a two door sedan 31 A now its a no door coupster, I guess. Im going for kinda a lakes mod/ drag look. Kinda lo buck, not a lot in the whole car fund when everybody is fed and roofed . What I didnt have money for I built which is pretty much everything frame suspension pedals everything. Takes along time when you have to build it all. Ive always liked the trad look even when that wasnt cool, but never had the dough to chase down trad parts. So some of the car is close most will p*** but as a ******** traditional car no way . I know this . Be easy one me, Im new. Ill add more pics when I figure this postin thing out Thanks Danny.
Thanks guys, well I don't know how much of a handful it's gonna be haven't diriven it yet but soon. Front shocks are on i'll have pics later and I'm on the fence about the headers. They look better standing next to the car. I'm thinkin' lake headers.
Pretty cool ride! There's a bunch of guys around here building similar cars and they're all further along than me. Good route to take. I noticed the dually next to it, love to see some shots of that. Is it on a late ch***is?
Nah, 1/4 elliptical front & rear- with control links. Trying to animate the rear geometry in my head but having difficulty. Don't see front or rear shocks yet.
Koz, The truck is a 56 1 1/2 Chevy, built by my dad. My best friend ended up with it after Dad p***ed 06 (mis you Dad). Its still on it same frame just shortened a bunch and a pickup bed w/ the fenders widened a bunch.
31 Vic and Moter, the suspension is quarter eliptic with a wishbone in front. In the rear it's got a link arm that goes up by the trans and is roughly in line with the front u joint but it is mounted on a shackle to allow for the different arcs of the springs and the link arm. And guys it got shocks. This is a build. I just didn't put pics up yet that have the shocks mounted.
What are the headers from? Would swapping sides get them down any? They definatly are . . . different Love that dually -- my first was a 56 pu.
Thank you Mr. Big. Mr. Turkey if I turned them over and side to side they would point up I lost my love for that look when I was about 14 at the demo derby. Actually that roadster is a big influence Fenderwell headers, guages in the firewall.
Here are a couple of real early shots, one of the body when I started and two of the frame as we were getting down to building. All very much a work in progress.
Painted the frame this weekend. Looks pretty good. Very excited to move tward something being "done". Now paint on axles and springs, then roller. Look OUT!
The only question I have is this: your (what looks like a) "torque arm" on the rearend isn't on the same plane as your quarter elliptical springs, they look like they will travel in different arcs, won't that limit your suspension travel as well as put a lot of stress on the components?
Rich, The arm has a tie rod end on the end and that attaches to a shackle. The shackle is long enough to allow the differential in arcs to work togather but short enough to properly locate the axle. I'll post details of the suspention soon. It all works, and some parts have been bilt a couple of times to get things right. Thanks for the question, Danny
Very interested in the build and specifically the rear susp. Please post more info and pics. The rear looks super clean
I was on the fence about painting the body. Couple of the Garage Gang wanted the leave the paint alone. They claimed the finish on the body was earned. My best friend Brad reminded me that Ill never take the car all apart to paint it, paint it now or it will be wore out before you get around to it. Hes right so I took the body to my house to work on the sheet metal. I took a couple of days off to work on finishing up some loose ends, like replacing the lower cowl ends where I sectioned the body. Then trim the windshield posts. The floor had a couple off places that need sheet metal. Well all good intensions, I got up Friday morning Im standing there with my cup of coffee. I grabbed the die grinder and cut the dash out . Then I cut the windshield posts off , three times. Being this was a sedan the dash stood above the windshield riser like two inches. I cut it down to be level with the riser. Then the windshield posts looked like two big logs coming out of the cowl so I made mounts and cut up some aluminum for posts. Had a devil of a time getting the posts parallel to each other, after tacking and moving the mounts about four thousand times it hit me clamp the together then weld them. I used a big wooden ruler that was in my garage when we moved in Its big, I dont know what its for but it saved my ***. There is one of the guys on here that has a I believe a 34 Chevy orange and cream? I saw it in pictures of Bonneville. He has his windshield laid all the way forward, I love it and stole it. With all due respect. The pictures are of the process of chopping on the dash/posts. More stuff to follow.
It's real original Flat Black. I know, but I love black( love black) and I didn't know if we could get it strait enough for gloss. In hindsight it was, oh well.
Rich, the torque arm is mounted to the rear end with rodends. That sets the pinion angle. the front is attached with a tie rod end, a big one, and that is hooked to a shackle. The rear suspension works awesome. I gotten to drive it a little here the last week or so, the torque arm works right, it lifts the rear just a little, goes straight, and lites the tires at will. Working the bugs out now.
