Ok,so I decided to document the build up of my 31 roadster which, with the help of some newly made friends, will hopefully be cruisin along the asphalt by spring. Plans are to get the banger running good and either keep her for a season or just locate a nice flathead and 3spd trans and do her up the way i've dreamed right outta the box. I was gonna go the 32 frame route but she looks pretty sweet on the ole A frame so I think i'll keep it that way. The idea is to build a "period correct"(heard that before,huh?)40's styled roadster to enjoy with friends. Gonna swap out the brakes for a nice juiced set and get a 4" dropped axle and reversed eye spring to bring down the front end and follow suit with dropping the rear a bunch, too. Here's a few pics of how she looked when I got her home and then after a nice blasting.
Looks cool, but I'm not crazy about the wheel/tire combo. Maybe something a little bigger and a longer wheelbase?
I personally like those wheels in the top pic. I bet it turns on a dime! On a serious note I look forward to seeing the updates. I like the 31 on a 32 frame but either way I bet it ends up being a nice ride. What drivetrain are you going to use? edit (reread and seen it)
coool your off to a great start im a little biased when it comes to banger powered A highboys bit more inspiration for ya a friend's A that ive worked on
Dropped the body on here new home with a little help from my buddy(thanks Pat!)and this is how she's sitting in the garage as I write. New rumble lid from Brookville and some more sheet metal to smooth out the bumps and bruises and she is gonna be a looker!
I see that you have a second firewall, if your not going to use the one with the tear drop indent I could use it. At least the tear drop indent.
Damn right it's solid.....I've been searching for a decent body....*anywhere in the contiguous US*, and I haven't seen ANY like this, yet. You're SO lucky to have one like that!
So we did some work, albiet a little, on the roadster last night(thanks Pat) and I completed some more today. Removed the passenger door and seperated the door skin and cut out the lower passenger quarterpanel to shore up some rot that had eaten away at the ole lady. Also got the passenger cowl side lined up and ready to be tacked. Looking to do some welding over the weekend and possibly have the passenger side shored up so we can move around to the drivers side. Pictures to follow.
Ok i've really slacked off on the updates,as their have'nt been too many, but here are a few pics of how the project is coming along. Many props go out to Pat Pryor for getting this baby where she is today. So we've cut the cancer out of the wheel wellsand lower quarter panel on the passenger side,as well as cutting out the frame rail and replacing the chewed up original with a nice new repro. We also replaced the door skin with a new one as well as as a new cowl side. Still have to fit the door as it's only hangin on for looks right now.
So as you can see we're moving pretty good on the passenger side and if this damn snow will ever stop we can push her out and spin her around for some TLC on the drivers side. Hopefully we'll have more updates to show you soon.
What a GREAT car, seems we are bogged down with non traditional threads now, I was refreshed when I looked at this one. I spent a weekend roaring around in my friends A powered RPU last spring, you won't be disappointed .
