It seems the double 'A-A' & 'B-B' chassis are often left behind when the cabs are pirated for a build, your version is proof positive they are fair game as well !!!

  3. Some pics to show the driver position. I am 5’8” and with no seat cushion I am a little too low in the car. Should be a great fit for any size driver depending on pedal placement, cushion thickness etc.

Smart move…center/trans crossmember is mounted near the bottom of the frame rails…seat is mounted below top of frame rails…perfect!
Rustoleum Rusty Metal primer is a great color…don’t like the bright orangish primer…too much in your face.

  9. This pic shows the trunk prop, given to me by a friend years ago. Helped a lot to have it in place while working on the car.

  10. Trunk hinges were cut from 1”x1/8” angle iron.

Good on you KK, keep the production going and having fun while recuperating !
    Really enjoyed your thread !
Reminded me of years ago my son and I building a kick around coupster out of junk
and loose swap meet parts. A joke from the beginning and we stenciled Alfred E in
the '34 pu grille shell when it came off the wall from primer to paint.

  13. I am not working on anything while recuperating. This car as built in the 10 months before the surgery. Thanks everyone for the positive feedback.

Kev, I was excited to see a new build thread by you, you have an amazing knack for using cast off parts, and ending up with period correct results. That is a husky chassis, that will handle most any power plant, and the car will look right at home at any venue. Take it easy my friend !

Like the hinges, latch etc., among others of course, as you have done not all the hardware needs to be hidden from view it provides a more business no nonsense attitude.

Nice build, do you notice any more room in the shop now that things are all bolted together?

  19. Yes I do. Kind of re-did my shop during Covid. Much better than it was but space is very limited. It is all the space I have to work with so I am happy.

  20. Here are a few pics of the windshield. Made from .0650 5052 aluminum cut and bent to shape and 3/16” Lexan. It is surprisingly sturdy.

Great work as usual Kevin! These kind of builds are the best. Turning chicken poop into chicken soup. It's funny how some guys can't seem to do anything with a rust free solid body while others can turn discarded scrap bits into something cool.

Great to see you back @Kiwi Kev and all the best for your recovery. How far will you progress this before sending it down the road?

  24. Hoping for your continuing recovery, heart surgery is serious stuff!
Wow! ''Just throwing together spare parts'' yields a badass little roadster. Great parts stash there. Those trunk hinges are something I zero'ed in on even before the description. Simple perfection. I'm going to make a set just because.

  25. panhead_pete…. I am not going any further with it. New owner is picking it up Saturday. He will be running Ford flathead V8, plans to run at RPM Nats.

    Hello,

Your build is inspiring. So much so, that I had an old roadster ART sitting around on my drawing file waiting for some additional custom touches. The roadster was full body, had some mini fenders and had a supercharger sticking out of the hood.

The newer version with much alteration was to section it a little, add a hood and custom louvers along with some longer custom claw flames, as well as removing the fenders. Your short windshield and custom roll bar fit just fine.

Your roadster has our favorite color, the red oxide primer coating always reminds me of our old 1940 Willys build. It was the way it was at the last sighting in a driveway somewhere in industrial Wilmington, CA, near the old Lion’s Dragstrip locale. In 1960, Atts Ono and myself, took it apart and trailered the remains to a scrap yard nearby our Westside of Long Beach house. It was one last goodbye… but, had we been able to finish our drag racing days competing in the U.S. Nationals. The Willys Coupe was going to be silver or bright yellow. Towed by a matching color 56 Chevy Station Wagon.

My brother wanted yellow and my choice was silver… with a matching silver 56 Chevy station wagon.
    upload_2024-2-19_2-17-47.png

    Note:
The sectioned roadster was colored a red primer, but it looked better with a nice black paint and contrasting color flames, not in the normal yellow/orange/red pattern. Fuschia with Red pinstriping highlights was the pattern and color. YRMV

  28. Yes, paint job choices are infinite at this point. I was thinking about painting black scallops on it. Needs some more body work if someone wants to give it a real paint job.

Here are a couple more pictures of the hood that started it all. It is held on by 1/4. 20 machine screw but the top needs a hinge on one side and 2 lunch box latches on the other for quick access. Have a hinge and I’m sure the latches are available at Lowes or Home Depot.

  29. I 'd love to see a 'hopped up' 153 4cyl from a Chevy II & a S-10 5 speed under the hood - what fun!!!
