I've already thought about a Volvo M40 gearbox? The conversion kit is available here in Germany, not from me. I just used it. Just as a suggestion. Happy New Year to you too. Greetings Harald
Moving on to the model B distributor, I have most parts to build one up, including new cam and NOS shaft, but the B contact arm isn't good and the B contact screw part is cracked. My model A distributor has a decent set of Nu-rex points in it which I want to fit to the B points plate. I stripped the parts off the both plates and made an arbour that locates the A plate concentric on top of the B, so I can drill through the holes to fit the Nu-rex points set to the B plate. Having got that far I realised that the positioning of the plates relative to each other isn't as simple as I thought due to the A plate being able to rotate in the housing, while the B plate does not. A small error might mean being unable to set the timing at all, so how do I work this out ? Need helps cos I'm suffering a bit of brain fade over this right now!
The Bertz seems to like, or doesn't mind, sustained higher RPM more than the stock. With taller tires...or is it tyres... you will probably be happy...my heavier car, Bertz powered and 3.54 ring/pinion set and 7.50 x 16 does fine at 65 mph/105 kph.. as for your conundrum on the fixed position backing plate... do some staring at the two backing plates and see if your B dizzy plate can be modified to accept the modern points and not kill a tab. you can really almost place the points anywhere on the plate and change plug wires around if you get a modern cap and wires to put #1 in any of 4 positions.... just duplicate the spacing from the rotational center of the shaft to the 'modern' breaker point mounting screws the B dizzy timing gets set by rotating the breaker point cam gear....this is the way to address and set the initial timing. Usually once you get it set you are good for the duration of course, unless you add more horsepower increasing items that require different timing ...it's a disease Hope that makes sense Merry Motoring in the Happy New Gear....
Winduptoy’s model A that ran with me in ‘16?s run to the LA Roadster show was running a Volvo trans and it moved along quite nicely at 70 mph all day long ……
Having survived 80 yrs of reckless lunacy, I'm hoping to make 100 unscathed. So I searched for a way to fit three point seat belts in a A Sports Coupe, apparently it can't be done. That maybe so on a stock body, so I had a go at fixing that. Bit of luck, it looks like the bit of trim that spans the gap behind the seat will pull up and hide the top tube, still need to fix that in place. It's been a bit quiet around here for a while, but I just managed to make summat rather good happen to move things along a bit! Didn't realise my cheap phone took such lousy video, and the engine is much quieter in real life!
Hi again guys, sorry no updates for a while but life sometimes gets in the way, and I've only managed to put a couple of hundred miles on the Burz! I even had to cancel my Pendine entry! Meanwhile to stop me going crazy I thought a rev counter and a couple of gauges would do the trick, I quite like the way it's turned out. From this, To this, Then after a proper look at the state of the wiring on this car I had no option but to rip it all out, so that'll be next.
