Technical 318 Poly/392 Hemi Oil Pump

Does anyone know whether the oil pump used on the 57-61 318 Poly is the same as that fitted to the 354/392 Hemi..........am chasing one to fit the 318 Poly and here in Oz they are like hens teeth.....thanks.....andyd

 

have you looked at Rockauto? Auto surplus in Victoria probably has them.

 

Melling is/was making new oil pumps for the 392, the 354 uses a different O/P. The A & LA oil pump can be used with an adaptor, but you would need to modify the int shaft or the O/P stub. O/P uses a slotted fitting & LA uses a hex fitting. What engine do you have? Rebuilding? Might want to put "Hemi Tech Index" by Scooter McRad in "search" and start reading!

 

For various reasons I need the slot or straight blade style pump......I can get one here in Oz but being the tightwad that I am I'm having trouble forking out nearly $700Aust. for an oil pump specifically for the 318 Poly........and as the engine is already more or less together, using an adaptor will drop the pump lower with the need to get the pickup modified again........lol......a reasonably priced 1957-61/2 oil pump would make life easier........lol.......andyd

 

the rockauto ones are like $90 for a melling .............. have you bought one yet?

 

Torana68.......just checked and Rockauto has the 318 Poly pump for $226 plus $50 postage, over $420 Oz........gotta psych myself up to this.......lol..............andyd
