I'm changing the timing chain and gear sprockets on[IMG] my '72 Plymouth 318 engine and this what appears to be a thick felt washer(???) is included in the gasket set. I am not sure where it is supposed to go and any info will be much appreciated. Thanks.

Did some of the early covers use a felt seal?

It goes between the damper and the timing cover on the outside to keep dirt off the seal, some dampers have a provision for the felt in a tin cup that shrouds the seal area and some don't.

  5. Goes in between the harmonic balancer and the timing cover, its supposed to keep **** out of the rubber crank seal.
