I hope that you dont ever plan on painting that car, the silicone in that stuff just made it damn hard to clean it up to make anything stick...
Dakota and Harp - good to know on both parts. For now I am going to CLR Tuffy's body and enjoy his aged look. Chad, beer makes me happy! I look forward to meeting you at Lonestar! Got the front end back together. Installed the timing chain and something didn't look right - what???? Decided I had better call Hotheads and make sure I had the right timing chain. I told them that my #1 piston was about and inch from being at TDC. They told me yes and not to worry about it just line up the dots?? OK maybe Hemi's are different? I decided I would go ahead and degree the cam because it just didn't sound right to me - something I had never done but I had plenty of instructions. After I did it over and over and was sure I was doing it right, I was consistantly off by 50 degrees. I pm'd TR Waters and he pointed me to this picture he had taken. Note the position of the keyway and the dot - four teeth apart. And mine from Hotheads - together. Upon closer inspection I found the dot, advance and retard mark on the ring gear - very small?? Maybe Hotheads can change their instructions to reflect two sets of markings. Anyway maybe this will help save somebody else some time. Shelby got the head pockets cut and I got them installed. Tore into the steering box and looks like a new gear is needed. And I found about 13 matches inside the tube - Not sure if they were used as shims or an ash tray?
quoted for truth. really diggin this build. it's been a while since ive been around here but this one will keep me frequent. flaco
Drinking Beer thats what I do best then car building. That stuff is pure insperation in a can I have entertained my friends for years with it and helps in bondo spreading and primer blocking.Hell you deserved one or two or three keep getting it !!
I never install a cam without degreeing it in. You would be surprised how many cams, gears ect are off and need correction. It's easy and fast check and will save you headaches in the long run.
That's funny stuff there! Chad and Terry - I'm still crankin! Motor is ready - waiting on oil filter adapter to finish! Really wish I had chromed valve covers but that will have to wait. Going the wrong way!! Deciding to paint the frame and rear suspension may cost me LSRU, but if I don't do it now and put it together, I may never take it back apart. Got the rear hangers installed and finished up the brake lines! The rear exhaust will have to be redone later - there is little clearance for suspension travel. I think they are straight but I couldn't get a good look with the body in the way?
I have encountered quite a number of mistimed cams over the last several years due to the multi key crank gears. They almost always run just lazy as hell. It's a neat deal but confusing to many for some reason. Good catch K.
Kathy, I really think you are my new HAMB hero. You do such nice work consistently in the comfort of your own garage with friends around for the ride. The car is turning out amazing!!!! I wish I was closer so I could offer a hand in anything so that you could get to the Roundup. Go Go Go!!!
X2!!!! Would that I could get as much done as quickly as you. I also wish I lived closer to drop by once in a while and give a hand. I do good grunt work.
Well lets see, 22 more days till LSRU, I thiunk you can make it. Kathy you have done an awesome job so far, I know it's a lot of work and more late nights but I'm pullin' for ya.
Very kind words Jeffrey - thank you! And you need to stop by and join The Pushbar. I have a zip line outside that Memphis would love! Eric, your an honorary member and I still owe you a Turkey Leg at LSRU! My butt is draggin today and I am in the middle of a bunch of OT! I get the most done when I work with Jerry Lee Lewis - Something about his music makes me focus and work! I may really be wiring on the way! If all goes well, I will be "huffin" paint soon!
Lookin' great there Kathy! Thanks for the updates. Don't throw it together to make the Roundup if you don't have to. I know it would be great, but once they're together it's hard to tear 'em down again. I know, I've been needin' to take my roadster back apart for a long time, but there's never a GOOD time. Enjoy the time in the shop with it, really pushin' it can take some o' the fun outta the build. Really lookiin' good.....best of luck!
I know you're too busy (and self-confident) to care, Kathy, but I'd love to meet the jag-offs who've voted this thread less than 5 stars!! What's up with that? You are my new hero, too. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree, does it? (We can see that MoMo has gasoline in her veins . . . your dad must've really been something.)
Ha, I didn't even know how the stars got there! Learned something new! MoMo has some more sandblasting to do. Any my Dad still is something - probably the most honest person I have ever known and I couln't have asked for a better one! Flipped the frame over and finished a little welding. Then started the clean up for primer and paint Got the rearend torn apart Still needs some prep 20 days away from LSRU - could I get it anymore apart?? It's been a long week, 72 hours at work and I'm not sure how many with Tuffy?
Kathy, you are my hero! Slow and steady wins the race. Do not hurt yourself trying to get this car done. Have fun and get to work slacker!!
x100 million +1. Do it right. Don't hurt yourself, and realize (like I have) that the Round-Up will always be there next year. We just want to see you and I'll make sure to buy you one of your "3 daily" beers.
A little here and a little there and before you know it your in the shop fireing it up and headed out the drive way. Wont be to mucch longer!!!
Got a day off! Took about six hours to prep the front of the frame. Longer than I had thought. Blamo for Cactus! Better than beer Chaddilac! Car porn for sure! My two new favorite colors! Seal of approval! How many days left till Roundup??
