Sorry GaryB. My body gave out at 1030. Had a bad clutch slave - boy did that waist some time. Brakes are done and steering box has been rebuilt and shortened. Still have to make a keyway for the steering wheel, a gas pedal and new body mounting holes. I'll make it if my knee's can take it - I couldn't even squat last night.
Kathy after following this thread since you brought "Tuffy" home. I wish I was close enough to help you get to the end. Fuzzy
Thanks Fuzzy - I am so focused that I am trying to keep people out of the shop right now. I even put a sign but it didn't work. I'll bet I had 10 people come through the door yesterday. Are you drinking beer without me? Did you bring your paint sticks, I have some work for you?
glad you found the problem w/clutch.so close. hopeing for the best. but take care of yourself.the beer is going to taste real good
Crap!! I dropped it off in Dallas!!! If I had known I would've throw it in the truck!!!! See you tomorrow!!!!
Well I am sorry to say that Tuffy is not going to make it to LSRU. It is heartbreaking and very disappointing. The fact that he was chosen to be an "on the hill" feature car was such an honor and I think Tuffy deserved it but I flat failed! The good news is that at 4pm, I got to drive him for about 30 foot, then I had little to no clutch engagement. Put him in reverse to try and baby him back in the shop and had him reved up pretty good when the clutch grabbed and I went flying backward toward the pool table - even left a burnout mark on the concrete and got it stopped inches from the pool table before I got the engine cut and stood on the brakes. I tell you, I was shaking from head to toe and could hardly stand up. I've done a lot of burnouts, but never backward and into a building. After repeated attempts to adjust the clutch and a few phone calls we determined that the pressure plate was bad - I put a used one in and I still don't know what I was thinking. I contemplated trailering him there but that's not what Tuffy is about so at 1230 this morning we started pulling the engine and tranny out and finished about 2am. It's just not in me to fix it today. My body has given out. I have a video of the whole episode that I will try and post later for your amusement.
So close, but to say you "failed" is far from the truth. My 40 Ford has been "under construction" for over 20 years. Your determination and skill level are an inspiration. There is always another get together around the corner. Safety first.
sorry to hear about the clutch problem. You gave it hell Kathy sometimes shit happens.you take care of yourself, when the time comes "TUFFY" will shine, but you've got to be around to crack the whip.looking forward to the video
You gave it hell Kat! I am glad you did not get hurt! I hope you are still going to the show? I would love to shake your hand!
You haven't failed...you did an amazing job getting the car this far. Of course, you realize that all you have to do is say the word and you'll have a line of volunteers waiting at your shop door to help finish the R&R... Based on the rest of your build, I'm guessing you want to finish it yourself though, and that's understandable. Tuffy lives to fight another day!
I'm still amazed at all the work you accomplished in such a short time!!!!! i feel like ive been following a wonder woman version of overhualin!!!!
Girl You did not fail!! You just had more Gremlins than you could over come in the time alloted !! If it was meant to be it would have happened. I think everyone here is proud of what you accomplished in the time you had!! And so should you!!
Me too. I've been checking in for 2 days hoping you made it. I had a good time reading the progress the last few weeks. Real glad you did not crash the back of the car.
You are one amazing craftswoman, with very supportive family and friends . Thanks for the inspiration!!
and....it probably got lost in the moment, but... That WAS the first time that old coupe moved on it's own in 45 YEARS!
Kathy, hell of a try. We have all been there at one time or another. It is always discouraging to leave a car home when it was that close, but the fact that you fired it for the first time in 45 years is nothing to sneeze at. Bad parts exist, whether new or used. Just wasn't in the cards. Now when you get back at it the task will be enjoyable again. Tuffy will run, no doubt, and people will still be amazed. Good on ya. Pat.
Your not alone I didnt finish either! I am out working on it I should have gone down to LSRU but just didnt have it in me to go! Well keep pluggin away at it thats all we can do! I hope to drive down the road with ya sometime soon!
Hold yer head high!!!! You put an assload of effort into it!!! Now you can step back, think of the shortcuts you may have taken in the rush, and go back to correct anything that you don't feel 100% about... guess how I know that feeling. LOL Good luck to you and DO NOT ever think you "failed". You are an inspiration to many, I am sure. YOU FRIGGIN ROCK !!!
I have been following this thread for a while and I personally think you have kicked ass! Go and have a beer and enjoy all that you have accomplished! RGG
