True there, I was thinking the thickness of the bracket was moving the end of the steering arm in a lot more than the thickness of a backing plate would. Moving the calipers to the back is a whole different unrelated ball of wax than the thickness of the brackets. I had that same thought. I had on of those hairpins on my T bucket back in the 70's and it didn't have a lot of threads sticking out past the nut and lock washer with backing plates behind it.,
Take the caliper bracket to a machine shop and have them counter bore the steering arm holes half the thickness of the bracket, this will give you a little bit of room between the shock and steering arm. It will also give you more threads to bolt the steering arm down.Take the shock brackets off and throw them away ,and Just buy some good ones from Pete and Jake or somebody. While your down there you don't need 3/8 plate to hold the brake line on, get a brake line kit. Your car is to nice not to fix it right.
Has anyone noticed the amount of threads inside of the tube on the draglink ? I just glanced over this , and at the photos . My steering arm is Chassis Engineering , pitman arm is Pete and Jakes . I know the hoop steering arm has been used for 1000s of cars , just not mine . I’m not sure but I think the shock mount will probably be ok . Just my 2 cents worth
