I'm putting together a channelled 32 pickup and I'm having to refabricate a lot of the floor. Rust. No surprise. Now I've got the wood mounting kit which goes between the floor and the frame but can't figure out where the pieces belong. Can anyone help?
    Thanks
    Ed

It goes in the body subframe. If you are channeling it the frame wood kit is probably a waste anyway.

I got that much but the front ones don't seem to fit. Are they maybe not for the half ton.
I am channelling it but reusing the original floor. Has to look original see!

The long one goes in the front parallel with the frame the 2 short ones go farther back and not parrallel to the frame. Some of the dados are there just to clear rivet heads on a stock frame. They are nothing but spacers to give the mounting bolts something to clamp the floor to. I would not get too woried about it. It's the thickness of the wood that matters on a stock cab. The wood was actually screwed into the channel of an original cab to stay in the channel before it was bolted to the frame. You can feel the mid cab piece from the out side if you try because it over laps the frame because it is perpendicular to the frame. If the frame is original the dados will give you a clue as to where they go to clear the stock rivet heads. It was confusing at first for me also.

How thick is the wood? I'm in the same place on my truck and was going to make my own. The originals are so dried out I can't tell if they are inch and a quarter or inch and a half or something else. Thanks Mark

Wow, an original floor channel job. Maybe you could post some pictures as you go along...I, for one, would be interested in seeing that. How much of a channel is it?

Just a bit less than the width of the frame. The truck will be full fendered.

I've been wondering how much if any channel can be done with fenders. How much space do you anticipate b/w the bottom of the cab and the running boards? At what point will the hood interfere with the fenders, ***uming you can use hood sides? How much can you channel the bed with fenders before you run out of room? I guess that would partly depend on the wheel and tire. Anything else you can think of that you'll run in to? I've been debating on fenders or no fenders for the 32-34 that I haven't found yet  Sorry to hijack..

This one appears to be channelled. Maybe you could find this guy to get some pointers.

The bed doesn't get channelled. You have to section the firewall. The cowl sides need modifying to follow the fenders and the hood sides and grill need sectioning.
I'm copying the Jan '52 Hotrod cover car. The Roy Desbrow pickup. Or rather using it as inspiration.

Thanks for the info. I was worried about the lower cowl sides. I googled the '52 cover...I don't like how the bed sits higher than the beltline on the cab. The picture fleetside posted looks good though. I can't really tell what they did differently though. Thanks again!

I used 5/4 poplar and made mine. It does fit between the bottom of the cab and the frame rail, which I agree that if it gets channled, I don't see the purpose since your cab will not be sitting on top of the frame???????? Good luck anyway and keep us posted.

It still sits on the subframe, you just set the subframe 5 1/2 " higher up in the cab. The subframe sits on the frame just like it always did.

I believe the pickup on the cover was sectioned and channeled. That is why the bed is above the belt line. The pickup in post 13 is just channeled

Another thing to keep in mind is that the forward two pieces (the long ones) are NOT the same for '32 as '33/34, despite how most of the vendors sell them. Most are selling '33/34 pieces as fitting all years. The mounting locations at the front of the cab are different, as is the frame shape.

Yes I've worked that out. You pay a load of money for pieces of wood that don't fit anyway.
I could have made them myself for pennies.
