Picture 1 looks a little too long and sleek with smooth hood sides. Picture 2 is spot on perfect in my mind. I'll quote your commentary of "UGH" for Picture 3... That exhaust solution kills the whole truck. Picture 4 is a tidy package. I personally think they look good either way, but it's the whole package, not just the inclusion or exclusion of hood sides that make the truck.
Looking for some pics of a 33-34 pickup, it was a spread in hot rod magazine in early to mid eighties issue. It was black full fenders, unchopped with polished halibrands. I believe the owner/builder was a known name. Any help out there?
Man, this is an old thread. It still seems to be going strong though so I'll post a quick pic of the 33 I just picked up. It was an abandoned restoration that the builder ran out of money on. It came to me kind of unknown but I'm getting it sorted out. Laser straight bodywork and nicely done new paint were big selling points for me. It has Lincoln brakes. I'm just going to lower it, add big and little blackwalls on 16" steel wheels, wire and plumb it and leave it at that.
Glad this thread keeps reappearing. Our 1/2 ton pickup a few months ago. Post # 831 shows an old photo, the truck is now repainted. New UP rear fenders.
....it’s just you....... I actually think it depends on style. A chopped and channeled one, no hood sides probably looks better. A stock height one can look better with hood sides. Others may have their own opinion........

Originally hot rodded in 1953 in Greensboro N. Carolina area with flathead, 283 installed in late 60s and brought to NH where it sat in a field, frame rotted and block cracked. I bought it in 1976 and restored it back to it's 1953 build except a 283 w/Duntov cam. It was chopped, shortened bed, model A rear fenders, 49 Merc dash, 33 Hood sides, dropped axle, 40 rear end and '40 Lasalle rear bumper in the original build. Still got my teal 33 pickup, but grandpa had to have another 33 for himself. I found this one sitting in a garage, had a Toyota 4 banger in it, thats gone and now fitting a 348 Chevy to sit between the frame rails. All steel pick with zero rust.
