Whats your opinion on putting 32 brooksville roadster quarters on 32 5 window, I know the flair is different . They are to far gone.
And I think they are 1" longer at the door jamb,.... There is a company suppose to be building 32 5/W bodies, and offering quarter panels,... BUT !, They are made in China.
I'm going to be running roadster quarters on my 5w since at the time I found my roadster units there were no 5w reproductions. But even so, I actually like the flairs on them and think they'll add a little to the car with out messing up the rest of it. There is a bit more more to getting them on as the space between the door and wheel well is a different length but for what I have into my quarters it's worth the work to make them fit. Bobby Green knows a guy that has a buck and the knowhow to take Brookville quarters and redefine that wheel well so it's just like the 5w's. He even charges a decent price because I think he gets the blemished quarters from Brookville and works them over. I've seen one and it looks great but I am not sure he's around doing them anymore. Check with him.
Dave Lane (Fast Lane) did it on the black Deuce 5W he built for George Poteet. It looked great! Pictures & details are here: http://www.fastlanerodshop.com/5window-main.htm
I personally think the roadster quarters look GREAT on a 5 window. several guys here have done it very well. on a related note, anyone know where to get decent patches for 5 window quarters?? I need lower corners, inner drip rails and the upper reveal between the roof and decklid??
Gary, You beat me to the punch. I was just going to post Poteets black 5 window by Dave Lane when I saw your post. Beautiful Deuce fiver !
if you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for this body?? I could really use all the good sheetmetal that is left to make a good 5 window out of my coupster....
Yep, that's it!!! I love all of his work, but this build is what instantly popped in my head. I say go for it, roadster quarters on a coupe look *****in!
And may I add JeffreyJames you ****!! I mean that in a totally non-homo extremely jealous kind of way!
Ha!!! I bought it from Plowboy for 5k. It was the only way I could afford a '32 so I jumped on it. He described it very well but the pics that he had gave me the impression that it was a lot more solid. When I picked it up in PA I was riding on a high from getting my '35 that when I seen the '32 I was like "oh whatever I'll make it work". But after hearing all my friends laugh at it, the reality began to sink in. I just bought the biggest (and expensive) pile of ****!! Have no fear though, It's on the up and up and will be rad when it's finished! Let me know what you need if I have anything left you're more then welcome to it. Damn, that hurts Boo! You won't be saying that once I post some more pics of that heap. Should be starting on it in July!
well, I basically got the reverse of what you had for 1/10 the price . look at my av, it's a 5 window that had the roof cut off and the tops finished off with exhaust tubing back in 1960. all the original bodywork was done in lead. car was channeled over A rails with a plywood floor. I put stock floor back in, built some windshield posts and an upper door hinge so I could open the doors back up then a carson top. I'd rather have a "real" car though. A 5 window is always going to be worth more than a "coupster" I actually just had a thought on this car. the way the top was cut off including windshield posts and the way the rear drip channels were cut out of it halfway down (not rotted, torched) makes me wonder if a farmer originally cut the roof off and made a war era farm truck (for more fuel rations) out of it. Then later some hot rodder modded it.
Rolling Bones did a 5 window for Poteet and used roadster 1/4s. I think if you Google it under Street Rodder it shows the how to pictures. I found it some time ago.
Haha, $5k pile of ****! I got a few of them laying around but none are '32 anything. I say you still made out well!
