My 5w is channeled about 5" and chopped about 4". The seat that was in it was one of them old Chrys van rear seats, although it fit, I didn't like it at all. Time for a replacement. Is there anything shy of a high dollar custom built seat out there that fits between the doors AND slides? I bought some seat sliders from Speedway and they don't fit the bill. (****py) Does anyone know of a junk yard type replacement?
A friend used a ford ranger seat for a 32 roadster, had to take a section out of the middle of the frame to fit. But like the chrys van seat, you will just have to see and sit on one you like first. Alot of times the foam can be rebuilt to fit you cab before put new seat covers on.
As above, I've heard numerous people using Chrysler minivan middle row seats and they work pretty good. Best part is in a lot of cases the foam isn't worn out yet.
Plywood and hi density foam,,you can shape the foam with a electric carving knife and cut the plywood seat bottom and back for exact fit. Spray adhesive and the material of your choice then staple the paterial to the wood. HRP
Dodge Caravan...the front has bucket seats...you want the next bench seat behind the driver and p***enger front seats...I think it's called the Jump Seat.....works perfect.
I have a `32 5W that is chopped 3" and channeled about 5" ( the depth of the frame) and there is no room in there for a seat and me. I plan to un-channel it. Then the van center seat would work.
I'll ***ume (a big no-no) that you've removed the package shelf behind the seat. If not that would be the first move..........then use the suggestions above. In the end, if you plan on a lot of road time a custom seat will pay big dividends in the enjoyment of the car. I will be facing the same issue if and when I get my '32 5w going. Fortunately, there is a first cl*** interior shop close by and they can work some real magic in cases like this. Frank
Thanks for all the input. This car was built about 1980. The old Chrys van seat fit pretty well, but was not adjustable, and was getting ragged, besides having been a sponge for a leaking gas tank behind it. The package shelf is gone I think plywood and good foam is probably my best bet at this point. Does anyone have the dimensions of the base of a stock seat I could get?
Here's how the Caravan 2nd seat fits in my '31... thinking your '32 would be similar. Oh, and if you look closely you'll see how I modified the package tray to retain it, but bought an additional 3" of legroom.
Another vote for the Caravan seat.Nice thing is, if you find one in a junkyard. you don't need any tools to take it out- two levers release it from the floor brackets and throw it in yer truck.Pictures kinda ****, but here's the same style seat in a sedan, roadster and coupe. I gave one to a friend for his '32 roadster and it fits perfect. I usually get them for around $25 or 30 bucks, remove all extra **** (headrests, armrests) and a friend who has an upholstery shop builds up low spots with foam and covers them with pleated marine grade vinyl for $300.Then I use blocks of 2X4 and plywood to get it where it feels rightand set up the mounts. They all ended up around 5" in front, 3" in back and left room underneath for storage( always a plus). Good luck however you go. Mike from M***.
