Anyone familiar with a reputable facility capable of repairing my collision damaged C.E. forged axle in close proximity to Omaha ? I have tried several truck firms & Sid's & Okie Joe's have some questionable publicity here & on the Ford Barn. Thanks, Ron
There is a rodder in Southern California that drops axles and I recall someone mentioning that he corrected their bent axle before dropping it. Hopefully someone might see this and remember that fellows screen name. I found him- @Gearhead79
How bent is bent? Where on the beam? Pics? I corrected big truck axles in my previous life with a 50T press, cold. The little 32 axle would take a lot less.
I've suggested Greg Haynes/Anson Axles to him several times but apparently shipping is an issue? I have no idea how many 32 axles Greg has dropped for me and some of them need some tune up and everyone has been perfect. Several of the axles he's done for me have sold for what to me is big money and have went on award winning cars.
Followed krylon32's lead & chatted online with Greg at Anson Axles & he kindly responded stating he would need to see it, sent photos but not sure with enough clarity as it's still in the ch***is, awaiting a second response. As for the bend, not sure if the dropped area is tweaked but it does bow to the rear from roughly the mid-section which surprises me as the 4 bars stood firm without damage. I've a couple replacement leads but want to stay with C.E. or V.C.W. as they are stamped as such & are true forgings unlike most advertised. I posted a more in-depth thread on the Ford Barn "Ch***is Engineering Axle" that dates back to the initial offering in a Street Scene publication dated November 1980.
OK one more time Sid has been pretty well retired for the past couple of years and hasn't taken in work since before he had knee surgery. He does a batch of axles up to haul to various swap meets and will probably be at Turlock Janurary 24/25 with some. I haven't kept uo with Okie Joe but word a few years ago was that Sid did the parallel leaf axles and Joe did the Ford cross spring axles for the most part and that aren't that many miles apart. Shipping an axle to someone who can do it right and having it shipped back does cost a stack of coins but unless you can do it yourself or find a shop locally that can do it that is probably the cost of hot rodding. Here I'd probably haul it up to the spring shop that is the go to shop for heavy trucks and that reworks our springs for us.
This thread seems to be stuck on a 47 inch CE axle. So-Cal & Roadster Supply are now offering a 47 inch forged axle that takes a 29 inch spring. I've sold dozens of So-Cal forged axles under customer ch***is with no problems. OP stated he may need a new spring because his mono leaf appears to be shot? There is concern about the slight change in angle where the rear 4 bars attach which is easily solved with different ends from P&J's.
No doubt that it's my doing on the C.E. axle thing dragging on & a word of caution, my ramblings are even worse on the Ford Barn as I found it rather intriguing to trace the history & how a thriving business evolved through the years but sadly sold after Roy Lewis p***ed away. The Roadster supply axle I suppose even though reportedly made in Malaysia is probably ok as well, but right now I'm more comfortable with what I know was put to the test & bent without breaking & made in the U.S.
