Hi, I'm building a '32 cabriolet over the pond in the U.K. I imported it over from the U.S. a couple of years ago, I got it from a guy called Roy Idaman, he broke the car up, so it was not complete, hense the reason why I'm using a 5 window cowl. Anyway I've been collecting parts since then and have now made a start. The body, I was told by Roy was an old race car, and had been about for years before he got it. The body, ie doors was welded shut for strength and then lead loaded, and lots of it too. Does any one out there recognize it? and if possible have a picture? The doors still have the original crab claw flames, I ain't gona paint them but a photo of sorts would help me in trying to match up the cowl section. Any information about this car would be great. Cheers Nick
Hi Nick: Don't know the car, but know Roy. Do you need a picture of that car or will any Cabriolet do.
One of the first Hot Rods I saw localy in the 1960's was a HEMI powered '32 Cabriolet. Were is this one from, is there any olive green paint on it?
NICK...i want some information from you. when are you going to send OUR coupe back to the STATES! govna we don't come over there and take your bloody dart boards! HA! just kidding mate. your new friend in texas U.S.A. YEEEHAAA...POP.
Don't know where it's from, Roy has been picking stuff up all over the states. It does have green paint underneath the doors, not olive, more a lime puke green.
Well, you didn't have to steal another of our '32's away but seeing as you already did keep us updated on the progress. Frank
I didn't steal it, I payed for it, honest gov. Though, I will drive it like I stole it. Will post more pics of the build as and when.
since you brought up the subject of cabriolets. This one has had a rough life. It shows evidence of being a channeled custom, it has the cowl vent leaded shut, the fenders were once mounted high, then the holes leaded. Later it was a drag car, with barn door hinges on the deck lid and holes torched in the top of the quarter for the roll bar. It's become a catchall in that corner of the shop.
The body of mine was green but the doors were black from another car. Not the same color of green are they?
Hi, thought I'd stick some pictures up of the build so far and also see if anyone can remember this car.....
After repairing sections, cutting out rot and lead filling.... just had to cut and shut the screen posts with some from another old cowl....
Lookin good Nick, I guess its gonna have a flathead then, as the K-member is still intact. It'll be a bit of a shock going so slow compared to what your'e used to. What are you gonna do with 'All shook up' - restore it, as per race guise???
Hiya Bob, yep a flatty gorn in this one....slooow...thats what everyone is saying....we'll see 'All shook up'... ummm? at the moment is staying as it is so I have somein' to nail around for the time being, but I have started on another steel body for it. Im making up a drag shell, cutting out all the bracing and unnecessary extra weight. Wish I could find out the history of this one though, or at least a pic.... How's the pop?
The Pop is good, I'll hopefully finish the wiring this week, then it's onto exhaust etc. Are you using a french 24 studder or what. Cool that you are putting together a steel body for 'All shook up" is it gong to be a balls out race car??? The work on the Cabriolet body looks spot on & done right. Shame you can't find any history about the body. It's gonna be a bloody nice car - keep at it!!!
Hi y'all, Picked up building the '32 cabriolet again after a long time away... There's a weekend coming up soon at Pendine sands... It's where the likes of Malcolm Campbell and Parry Thomas used to seek the world land speed records back in the 20's... Anyway the VHRA are organizing a weekend of racing again... the first since it was closed... So.... I had to pull out my finger and get a move on .... here's some of the pictures of the last couple of weeks work....
Cheers, thanks for the nice comment. Been working on it every day now, here's some more pics of the last few weeks, from when I picked up the engine till now, late nights..? well early mornings really pretty much 6 till 2.. ... wiring was a real bitch as I bought a kit and ended up ditching most of it... had to make a seat out of an old bench seat from a British Mk 2 Zephyr... Anyway I managed too get it it on the road yesterday... waaaahey!!! only a week and a day or two to go before the racing at pendine..
Seat build.. thought i'd buy an old industrial machine and have a go... Old seat out of British Mk2 Zephyr Cut and shut to narrow Shaped the foam with a grinder and 40 grit Old cover as a kinda pattern Mt go at tuck and roll Completed seat
All done and got to race the sands at Pendine.... now I just gota get it to go as quick as stink.... next year maybe...
