I have had this project sitting around for several years now and figure its time to start doing some work on it. I have a 32-34 chevy pickup body. It started out as a 1 ton truck so there is no frame or box on it. Last summer the building that it was in burned down. Body is still in reasonable shape, there is definitely some warping, especially in the roof and cowl. There is still plenty of metal left in most areas to still work with. I was planning on getting rid of the wooden frame in the cad anyways but the fire did that for me now.

I don't have any set in stone plans for it, just a vision :). I want it to have a pretty decent rake to it, skinny wheels on the front with larger slick style tires on the back. I want to chop the top maybe 3 to 4 inches. I have a 348 block, that was in the fire as well, there is a 8 or so inch crack on the outside of the water jacket, so i don't know if i can do much with that anymore. I do still want to use a 348 though.

My first question is, what would be a good vehicle to use for a donor frame, or would it be better/easier to make my own?

Second is should I try to salvage the block or should I toss it and find a new donor?

Any help or ideas would be great!! Thanks

Could you use a Model A type frame? I'd take the 348 to a machine shop or something. If I could save it I would

I had it at a machine shop and when they magna-fluxed the block that is when they found the crack.

Look for a chevy frame and build the chevy a chevy, the stock frame show up here and there, and the parallel front leafs are cool, A frames are boring.....

although there is a big difference between a 32-34 chevy.....

    here's an idea for you...my 31, same as a 32, 33 and 34 are more rounded...

I have some 348 Parts I would gladly sell you, I would rather put the money
onto a 6-71 Hampton Blower set up for my SBC.

What is the difference between a 31, 32, 33, and 34? All i have is the body so how can I tell?

Lots of Early Chevy frames out there for cheap, since many of the bodies folded up like a deck of cards, once the wood rotted. PBRmeASAP is right, put that Chevy on a Chevy frame. They are much stronger than an "A" frame. Someone was trying to "give away" 32 Chev frame and other parts lately,do a search.

Thats funny. Sounds like your way farther along than I am. Do you have any pics of your build?

I agree, the doors were a pain, it took forever to just get the curve of the doors to match the back of the cab
