Has anyone mounted wipers in the cowl of their 32 roadster? If so what motor did you use? 1 wiper or two? What about the arms and blades? I've seen it done, but its been a while.
I've seen it done but didn't care for the look and I always used Rain-X because I didn't like the motors on the windshield frame. HRP
I understood what he said, there is no way to make ether way of mounting windshield wipers and have them look good on a roadster. I adhere to the less is more mind set. HRP
Ok - the Duvall windshield is a different thing. The rake of the windshield means it is easier to make a better looking package. There is no good way to make a wiper system fit a standard 32 roadster cowl (imo) Plus it ******s up swinging the windshield out at the bottom
Uncle Buck is correct about cowl mounted wipers on the 1932 Doane Spencer roadster. On the Doane Spencer roadster there are two cowl mounted wipers on a Duvall windshield and they do look good. Considering the time period when the roadster was built I am ***uming the wipers came off a 1940's era Ford. Everything Doane Spencer did was top notch and the wiper installation is top notch as well. I remember reading that Doane Spencer travelled all over the USA in his roadster in all kinds of weather conditions so having a pair of windshield wipers that worked would have been a must.
Steve, They used to do it years ago with an early VW beetle setup. I am sure that you know someone who can make a tapered mount for it. LOL
Yeah, I own a cabriolet but it is not going on it. I have a plastic roadster I have been working on for a while and was investigating the possibilities. I knew I saw it done a long time ago but I could not remember on what car. Thanks for reminding me it was on the Doane Spencer car, I will look it up. In fact this car is similar to the Doane car with a frame that is Z'ed 3 " in front and kicked up 2" in the rear. 4" cut stock windshield though.
It could work as long as you perform an even more horrendous modification that will distract peoples attention from them. I suggest a mural on the decklid of Liberace riding a polar bear.
I suggest a Squeege and couple pieces of string (Left, Right, Left, Right,Left, Right,Left, Right)........... VR&C. P.S. - Sorry, but Cabin Fever and the Junkyard Pile thread have put me all the way over the edge.
I don't have any photos or research to share right now, but I'm planning on using one of the British style systems like those seen on MG Midgets / Healey Sprites, etc.. These systems use a motor and cable drive that looks su****iously (ie direct copies) like the cable drive systems currently sold for street rods. And they have angled bezels. I don't know if they will work for sure, but I'm sure hoping so.
Larry the Legend out of Prescott also has cowl wipers on his built many years ago gennie deuce roadster with a real Duvall. His look almost like 40 car towers???? Someplace I have the poop sheet describing everything done to the car when it was for sale down in Kentucky or Tennessee a long time ago. I'll look. Maybe RainX is a better idea!
I had a single wiper on my 32 roadster, even tho my screen was only 4" high.. In New Zealand we need them by law.. From memory it was a single speed rear window wiper off a Jappa hatchback (cant remember what make tho) It had a real long drive from the motor to the arm mount which allowed me to mount it at an angle the with the arm almost 90 degrees to the screen.. To make it 2 speed, I ran a two way switch with a resistor in one circuit..
I bought a gl*** '32 roadster years ago that had cowl mounted wipers. They were the typical English cable drive setup, with angled bezels and worked fine but weren't the prettiest.
If you check out the Deuce site, there is a very good article on installing wipers in a roadster, from a gentleman in Scotland http://hotrodcraft.com/forum/thedeuce/index.php?topic=1968.0
