Got a set of Brookville front fenders and braces. Braces don't seem to fit well. Not conforming to fender curve. If I make them conform then end of brace seams not to go far enough arounder to bead. Is there any threads or pictures of how they should fit
Nothing fits like the originals. I have tried the repops and have ended up cutting them just beyond the headlight bar mounts. I know that somewhat defeats their purpose but my 2 FF cars are so low I needed the clearance. I've done this on several FF cars and have experienced no problems to date. I also like it because it eliminated the bolts thru the fender.
The repos don't fit for*****. The only thing I've found that works is original parts. Last pair I brought cost me about $50 Singlefingerspeedshop.com. Detroit
On my F/G fenders for my F/G car I found I had to cut the repro braces in three pieces and form them to fit and then weld them back together. Piece o' cake. Dennis D
Thanks for confirming what I thought. Krylon I to plan on low ride hight. When you say you cut just past headlight bar does that mean there is no brace past headlight? Or did you thin it out and weld to elimanate bolt? Happy New Year I do not think Brookville much cares if they fit.
There is no brace past the headlight. I've driven several fendered cars like this many thousands of miles and had no problems with the fenders. My 3 window has a little more than an inch between the tires and fender so end of the brace had to go.
Thanks this help a lot since I moved the center of tire forward 3/4 of an inch tire would have for sure hit. My 34 truck I was able to make sit as low as you are talking about but the 32 is harder to get that low? I think because the 34 frame is higer in front?
On my own deuces I always move the crossmember ahead 3/4 of an inch over stock seems to center the wheels just a little better in the fenders.
I got my braces from C&G and they fit my original fenders fine. A bit of alignment work but worked out. I left the braces loose at the chassis and then bolted in the headlight bar followed by the coach bolt at the fender edge. Then tightened at the chassis and all good. The Model A's had a cast version, followed later by a stamped steel channel type. I recall having to apply a Stilson wrench, to make a number of bend adjustments, then finally align the outer fender bolt. Deuce would seem similar in method? Then there are mt. base-shim, and elongated headlight bar hole tricks!
I get it I have fenders where I want them-now I will cut, bend beat the braces till they fit. Kinda what I though just real good to here from you guys had to do same.
we made braces from flat 1/4 strap. Made patterns of the fender profile then heat and bend. weld a 3/16 tube next to the bracket to hide the head light wires these allowed for a super low profile
Worked with original and repop braces. I made mine follow the contour of fender out past headlight bar mount. Stock, they run flat more or less toward edge of fender. Have to do this for tire clearance if you want it low. As you said, doing this they end up short at the fender edge. bolt hole ends up about an inch or so too high, not right above fender bead. I cut end off just above flat and sectioned in a slightly longer end from another brace.
