Looking for some help on what the fasteners and/or clips? cage nuts? or whatever is supposed to retain the dash at the bottom of the windshield frame flange on the '32 3-windows. There are 7 recesses in the area of the body (see pic) that line up with the dash holes (the screws go in from the windshield side). When I removed the dash, mine was held in place with wood screws threaded into a small pieces of 18 gauge sheet metal that sandwiched the dash to the flange (see pic below). I'm pretty sure this wasn't Henry's design...but would like to know what type of fastener/clip or whatever is supposed to be there. Thanks in advance.
@anothercarguy You can get a packet of the correct screws from Macs. They are a pan head style with slotted head and I would have to check the thread size, I think it's between 3/16 and 1/4 and I think , the fine thread. I have some OG ones I could send you a pic of but can't post pics on here. Interesting but some which came from an OG cowl were brass. The replacements from Macs are steel. Also there are rubber buffers between the dash and the cowl but could not find any repro of these so I used grommets. Just re-thinking this and maybe 3 Windows differ from the usual 5W, Tudor, Sedan as they don't share anything with the other body styles but I think the type of screw would probably be the same.
This a 3 window and the screws go in from the front not thru the back. He needs the pieces that the screws go thru that go into the cowl slots. I told him a week ago to ask for this information over on the Ford Barn and David G would give him the correct answer.
Thread size is 12x24 special Ford part needed here . Mr Krylon 32 , passed you the best place to locate what you need . Have fun and be safe
Thanks Gary...I was giving this site a kick at it as I am a more frequently here. You are correct, I'm looking for whatever hardware, clips, or ? that attach to the cowl slots. Or even something close to what it's supposed to look like so perhaps I can duplicate it if it's made from unobtainium. Thanks.
Late to this party! As you can see in the pic, these are effectively pieces of flat bar with a standoff formed to presumably allow some flex. Easily reproduced and if you're not too fussy on the originality a more common threaded fastener could be used. On my Brookville bodied coupe I chose not to use them for a couple of reasons. Firstly, I decided they were awkward to fit ( I guess loosely assembled on the dash and then offered up, probably a pita to align etc and risking paint damage?), and secondly, more crucially, the notches in the body i decided were a source of water ingress, so I filled them and welded nuts to the inside. All fits together nicely but still at painted but not reassembled stage so I don't know how it will work out in use. I'll be fitting a rubber or foam strip to avoid metal to metal rattles and to allow some flex. Chris
