Yea, it could be. Probably not so much with the jack used also.

Yep. I'd put it on the other side where it can't slip out.

If the axle was dropped I sure as hell wouldn't creeper my way under there!

  4. Hey guys the only reason it was there was when I put it on the inside it made it hard to get a good look at the head light bar and that is what I was trying to show him. No work under the car was done with it in that location.

Dennis, did you install the top insert or have the Upholstry shop do it? I'll be crossing that bridge at some point with my coupe as well.

  7. so-dak-kid,
I installed it and it was a bitch due to the 42 small bolts that attach it to the top of the car. Metal top has a covering of about 1/8 inch very dense foam (like is used under a vinyl top) then re spray with 3M glue and attach the hartz material. Cut small slits at all bolts and glue around underside.
I trimmed the complete outer edge of the area around where the top goes with 2 layers of painters tape and then put one layer of gorilla tape over it to prevent any over spill of the sealer I installed around the edge, and to keep from nicking the edge with all the bolts when installing the top.
I might say it is a 2 person job when you go to set in place though.

Just found and caught up on this thread, had I known the story behind the car I would have looked at it closer as I sweat my face off at greaserama. I can however attest to it looking black in person in indoor lighting. Killer :)

Looks like Dennis has his exhaust in and some small's. He might chime in to add more details. IMG_1393.jpg IMG_1394.jpg

  10. Beautiful job on the top insert and looks so much better than the Juliano's kit or the all too common filled top. HRP

    Car is looking great, Dennis!

  12. Just went through your entire thread again,
the car has come so far, it looks great.
I hope we both make it to Austin and get to meet as well.

  13. HRP, Floweister & Malcolm, Thanks for liking what I am building. It has been a fun project for sure. Exhaust is at a stand still as I ran out of argon gas for the tig right after the above photos were taken. Got time at long last to make the 50 mile round trip to Lindweld to replace it so hope to get it done soon.
    HAPPY THANKSGIVING everyone...

How did you fit the bottle of Argon in the roadster?

  15. big deuce......I had to drive my pick-up truck. I would have rather drove the roadster, but like you say....How would I get the dam bottle of gas in the small trunk of it. Guess a guy can't have fun all the time.

  16. Well the exhaust has been on hold as I ran out of 45's (bends) and had to order 5 more of them. I went to Summit as they had the best price on them I could find. Just received them today and boy am I impressed with the quality of these stainless steel bends. They make all the other SS exhaust parts I have bought look like crap. Now my problem is going to be making all the rest of the exhaust look as good as the new 45's.......

Dennis wrote...."Well this is where I am at on the exhaust work. It is a lot of work
fitting, grinding, re-fitting and then more fitting. The one small
section on the drivers side going into the 45 took me 2.5 hours to get
it to fit right. Everything is just spot welded at this time and I
should have the drivers side done up and over the rear end tomorrow."
    here are some updated pics..... IMG_1394.jpg IMG_1399_1.JPG IMG_1400_1.JPG IMG_1401_1.JPG IMG_1402_1.JPG IMG_1404_1.JPG

  21. With the exhaust done it was time to bleed the brakes & clutch, add fluid to the 5 speed. Was unsure how much fluid the transmission needed. Looked it up and it needs 2.8 quarts. Leveled up the 5 speed, removed the fill plug on the side and the shifter top to add the fluid through it as much better than trying to fill through the side.
I could only get 2 quarts in it and it started running out the side plug. WTF......Checked with big deuce that built the 5 speed for me and it seems since this was a WC Camero transmission & they set at an angle & mine is now set square with the world the plug has to be installed and then add the remaining 3/4 quart.
Never to old to learn......Won't be long now and the body will find it's home on the frame for the last time.
    Merry Christmas everyone

A little bit underfilled is better than a little overfilled. It tries to find its way out of seals if overfilled.
I would set the trans level and go by the plug myself. 8)

  23. Dennis, it turned out great! Really like the way you routed the exhaust, clean and simple!

The camaro gear box has the fill hole lower. Right in the casting web line. When its tilted, that fill hole is the same height as the s-10 is on level ground. The s-10 fill hole is ABOVE the casting rib. In this pic, its a camaro. The box has the casting boss for the s-10 also, but its not tapped and drilled. If it were used for s-10, the upper hole would be used if mounted level with the world. Every tech article if found states 2.7 quarts. 6533773_orig.jpg

Only if you used a T5 trans that was designed to RUN level, you can do that. His camaro case is intended to be tilted in its original application. So, if that is altered , so is the way you fill it.

I hope you get to bring the car to the Mid West Deuces meeting next year, its usually warm and I would love to see the car in person. Do you live far from Lincoln? Great job on the car by the way.

  29. Looking good Dennis, hope to make it back over there one day and ride shot gun.
