Hot Rod world is changing so fast I can't keep up. Deuce Heavy front axles have always been popular. Are they still bringing a premium price for a really mint original axle or has the aftermarket axle changed that?
I don't think that the asking price on the will ever drop collectively. I have no idea of what the going price for a real nice one is right now but a guy has one that most likely was under a trailer for some time and has what looks like stubs of a tie rod scabbed onto it with brass on Ebay for 450. He says it can't be dropped because of the brass but that will fall off when you heat it to drop it. the same guy has one he says is a lot nicer for 695. Both are out of my wheelhouse and I'll settle for the not as pretty SoCal dropped axle that I bought several years ago as a well traveled vendor display axle that had been drug around to a lot of shows for show and tell. There are probably even a few Hamber's finger prints on it.
There's no reason that axle couldn't be dropped. Cut that chunk off, grind off any residue, and drop to your heart's content.
Whatever became of the stock-look Superbell axle? I know it was cast, but do they still make them? Now that Superbell/P&J have experience with forging, having adopted the Chassis Engineering axles, maybe they could also make some exact repro 32 axles. Then there would be an endless supply of fresh axles to drop in backyards across the country.
I have this one. It's a late 32. I matched it up to the one under my 32 , looks the same. It's been there since 1955. What's the differences in a heavy and this one ?
There’s no light 32 beam. Late 32s got 33 beams. Also they’re were no replacement 32 beams so if you needed to replace your front axle you were given a 33 to 36 axle which has the same spring perch thinkness and placement as well as the same track width making it a 1 to 1 replacement in all ways but appearance. So a 32 can be restored correct with a 33 beam given its vin is late but that’s what it is
