Can anybody educate me on 32 ford brakes. I have drums on the front and back with a power booster and dual feed master cylinder and a proportional value on the rear with a red residual on the rear also. What keeps happenind is the brakes keeps sticking after you press them causing the engine to overheat. I am at my wits end and I need help.I do want to keep the drum brakes and I know that there is a way to make this work.( I think!)
First thing you need to do is determine what kind of brakes you really have.....32 Fords did not have hydraulic brakes. Do you have a banjo rear end?
Also bad brake hoses holding pressure after you let off the brakes. Jack up car apply brakes and try to turn wheels by hand. Any that have a lot of drag open the bleeder and see if that releases the wheel. That would point to MC not returning to full off due to pushrod adjustment or bad hose.
If you have synthetic brake fluid in it, it likes to trap small air bubbles in the fluid and is very hard to bleed without a power bleeder. The air expands when the brakes get hot and locks them. A possibility.
Your brakes may well be sticking but that won't cause your engine to overheat. The above suggestions are causes of sticking brakes but not overheating.
If you think the brakes are staying energized try spacing the master cylinder away from booster with front end shims or cut a slot in washers as a test .If it corrects the problem adj rod in booster...
If this is a new build check to see if the residual pressure valves are in the correct way. One end should say master cylinder and the other brakes. They are directional.
Todays brake hoses are ****,,Go bad inside and will not allow preasure to be released. Take a wrench and crack the bleader to see if there is still preasure with no preasure on thje pedal...
I want to thank all of you guys for your replies and tell you that the brakes onlystick when car is cold as it warms up they stick less. I ordered a new mc I also tried adjusting the push rod but then I have to pump the pedal a couple times to get pressure to stop.
Did you bench bleed the master cylinder to get ALL the air out before installing it ? Very important on Dual circuit master cylinders as air gets trapped in the dual pistons.
